I also thought the Wizards had him under contract for another year if he decided not to retire.

Paul Pierce has a $5.5 million player option with Washington for next season.

Knicks need to move Melo now, whilst he still has something in the tank, and acquire some picks or young talent.

Some trade scenarios off the top of my head:

Lance Stephenson, Marvin Williams, Vonleh and the 9th rd pick

Not sure if this works financially because we still need to re-sign Dragic, probably to a max: Deng (opts-in), McRoberts, Chalmers, 10th rd pick, future 1st rd pick

Eric Gordon, Ryan Anderson, future picks for Melo, Hardaway Jr and Acy

Gay, Landry, Stauskas, 6th pick for Melo & Calderon

Assuming Pierce does not re-sign: Nene, Webster, Porter Jr, future picks for Melo

Might as well take the Wizards off because they're not making any big commitments to anyone not named Kevin Durant.

And doesn't Melo have a NTC in his contract as well?

He does however I remember reading an article a while back where he would be open to waiving the clause. I think it would be even more likely if he were traded to a Playoff team though not sure how Lala would feel about it...

Thing is, would that team still be a playoff team even after they gut half of their roster for him? I can't see him waiving it for any team other than MAYBE Brooklyn for the sole and only fact that he'd still be in NY(where his wife wants to be)but other than that, I can't see him waiving it.

Well if that's the case you may as well take Charlotte and Sacramento off there as well. That ninja ain't accepting a trade to either of those.

I think getting rid of Stephenson and adding Melo can definitely bring Charlotte back into Playoff contention.

But you guys are right about the NTC bit. Location and Lala will be major factors. Perhaps MJ could persuade Melo? lol

Can't wait until the Wizards sign Durant next year then destroy the east for the next 10 years with ease. Maybe Detroit will have a squad worth rooting for by that point.

I don't know if you're being facetious or serious. Don't forget LeBron & the Cavs in the east for years to come still.

Yep, and the Bulls... and the Bucks could be interesting if they can keep their nucleus together. The Pacers have a nice draft pick with George coming back, the Hawks need depth but ran through the league when all their pieces were in place. Even with Durant, the Wizards aren't running through anything. They'll definitely be a serious contender but in about 3 years things could look very different for everyone.
