Jack "The Flash" Gordon - CF/OF (Ruston, LA) Bat - Switch, Throw - Right 6'3" 215lbs
The only thing faster than his legs are his bat and his mouth. He'll steal second, third, a shot in the gap and while you aren't looking your woman. Not lacking confidence, at his HS games his dad would yell out to opposing fans, "Ya'll can die now - ya'll seen my boy hit!" For all of Meaux's swagger, his dad instilled an appreciation of the game and it's history, watching old games of Mantle, Mays, Rickey Henderson and Aaron. Meaux's dad, Maurice, is a minor league washout who has worked for the paper mill ever since injury derailed his once-promising pitching career. Meaux's a phenom that has said if he doesn't get a ten million signing bonus he's going to LA. Tech or Japan.
Beaux "Duke" Leone - 1B/LF (Monroe, LA) Bat & Throws Left - 6'9" 250lbs
Power hitting first baseman with a rough case of A.D.H.D - Billy Beane's worst nightmare. If it's small, white and coming towards home plate he's swinging, whether it's a baseball, Rosin bag or Verne Troyer. Sees no need to take pitches as a BB is the same as a 1B on the scorecard and he moves at the same speed in both events. His mom has a crush on John Schneider from his "Dukes of Hazzard" days, hence the embarrassing nickname. He's a huge target at first, but is a defensive liability if he has to move more than 10 feet in the field.
Wyatt "Nails" Gunn - 2B/3B (Bentonville, AR) 5'7" 175lbs - Bats L, Throws R
Tough, fast and intense - he's what Billy Beane dreams about at night. He gets on base with regularity, is a solid doubles guy who plays decent defense, breaks up DP's and gives max effort at all times. Grew up in a roach infested trailer on welfare in the Ozarks of Arkansas. He made himself into the player he is, getting only limited interest from the Royals and Cardinals. He gives his best and demands it from others. He might be short, but don't let that fool you - he's no easy out.
John "Doc" Ford - SP (New Haven, CT) 5'10 175lbs Bat & Throws L
He breaks radar guns - the wrong way. He's a lefty and a horse, but he'll be lucky to hit 90. He's an OCD control freak when it comes to pitching. He focuses on movement and control to get people out and gets nailed if he leaves anything over the plate. He has three good pitches and all of them move like MC Hammer with his pants on fire. Though short and spindly he doesn't tire and usually gets 100+ pitches every time out. He only got drafted because his well-to-do father gave a huge contribution to the team majority owner's last run for senate; John's dad figures once he fails at this he'll give up and do what the rest of the Ford family does - go to Yale law and afterwards pass the bar exam.
I'll cap the points at a certain level for starting at AA according to a certain player type. Gunn is a Jacoby Ellsbury/Dave Roberts type. Gordon is a young Barry Bonds, Leone is a better Rob Deer and Ford is a Bob Tewsberry (sp?)/Greg Maddux type. The speed and baserunning skills of Gordon and Gunn will be 80 at the start, Leone's power will be 65 and Ford's control and movement about 65-75 depending on the pitch. Ford's stamina will be about 75 as well. All players will have a durability rating of 80-85 starting out so they can play regularly, but at the same time can be injured.
Long term there will be some caps as far as certain attributes. Gunn will never have a power rating above 55, Leone's speed rating will never be above 55 and Ford's 2SFB and SLV will stay around 88 or so with a 68 mph 12-6. Gordon will have no career attribute limitations. I will also not directly improve Ford's K/9. It will be indirectly improved as it is directly related to the movement of the pitches as I improve them and I think it is also linked to H/9 as well. Ok, you guys vote, I will write.
