    JULY 9: MLB ALL-STAR GAME

    All-Star1_19

Cleveland, OH (AP) – The American League continued their recent dominance in the mid-summer classic as they rallied to defeat the National League 3-2 at Progressive Field in Cleveland on Tuesday evening. Hometown hero Jose Ramirez hit a two-run home run in the bottom half of the fourth inning to put the American League into the lead, earning himself MVP honors.

Max Scherzer was strong for the National League, going two innings without allowing a hit and striking out three.

The National League scored twice in the first inning. Chicago’s Ben Zobrist lined a single to left to score Atlanta’s Ronald Acuna Jr, who had led off the game with a double. Colorado’s Nolan Arenado then drove in Philadelphia’s Bryce Harper to put the National League up 2-0.

Arizona’s players had two hits as Jake Lamb singled to open the second and Wilmer Flores had a pinch hit single in the sixth. Ketel Marte went 0 for 2 and Adam Jones was 0 for 1.

Arizona (46-45) opens the second half of the season on Friday night in St. Louis as they will face former DBack Paul Goldschmidt.

      JULY 12-14: ARIZONA (47-47) @ ST LOUIS (45-47)

      July 12: DBacks 3, Cardinals 2
      July 13: Cardinals 2, DBacks 1
      July 14: Cardinals 7, DBacks 3

The DBacks could not continue the momentum that they started just before the All-Star break as they dropped the final two games in St. Louis to drop back to the .500 mark yet again.

The Diamondbacks hung on to take the opener 3-2 over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium on Friday evening. Dallas Keuchel had another great outing in picking up the victory. He went seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits. He struck out six and did not issue a walk.

The DBacks grabbed a 2-0 lead right off the bat with a Ketel Marte single and Adam Jones two-run home run off of Carlos Martinez. The Cards would get one back in the bottom half of the first on a Paul DeJong RBI single. But it was the Dallas Keuchel show after that.

The Dbacks would get a crucial insurance run in the sixth on a Jake Lamb solo home run. Arizona left men on base all night, stranding 14 base runners.

The Cardinals got one back in the ninth off of closer Greg Holland. Marcell Ozuna hit an absolute bomb to left to cut the DBacks lead to 3-2. But Holland was able to get the final two outs to pick up his 10th save.

The Cardinals pulled one out on Saturday night as Kolton Wong lined a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth to score Dansby Swanson with the game winning run in a 2-1 victory over the DBacks. The Cards opened the bottom of the ninth with a pinch hit single by Yairo Munoz off the glove of Wilmer Flores. Swanson came in to run and scored two batters later.

The loss ruined a great pitching performance from Robbie Ray. He went seven innings, allowing just two hits and one run. Matt Koch (2-4) took the loss, but he was a bit unlucky on the lead off single to open the ninth.

Arizona had tied the game in the top of the eighth when Adam Jones singled home Ketel Marte, who had opened the eighth with a pinch hit double.

The finale saw Zack Godley leave in the second inning with an apparent arm injury. The extent is unknown but it did not look good. Arizona would go on to drop the finale 7-3 to fall back to .500.

Jarrod Dyson hit a solo home run in the second inning. It was his first on the season, and gave Arizona a 1-0 lead.

The Cards would take the lead in the third on back-to-back RBI doubles from Jose Martinez and Dansby Swanson.

Arizona would tie it back up in the fourth on a Jake Lamb RBI single.

The Cards would blow this one open in the sixth off of Matt Koch and Taijuan Walker. Walker came on in relief of Koch and immediately hit Marcel Ozuna to load the bases. Paul DeJong hit a sac fly to put St. Louis in front 3-2. Harrison Bader then came through with a two-out, two-run single to make it 5-2.

The Cardinals would add two more in the eighth off of Walker to seal it.

Arizona (47-47) will have Monday off as they travel to Dallas to take on the Texas Rangers (44-51) for a quick two-game series to close out the road trip.

Re: RattleON - A DBacks Dynasty Presented by BigJDotCom01

        JULY 16-17: ARIZONA (49-47) @ TEXAS (44-53)

        July 16: DBacks 3, Rangers 2 (13)
        July 17: DBacks 6, Rangers 3

The Arizona Diamondbacks picked up a nice two-game sweep of the Texas Rangers to finish off their five game road trip to open the second half of the season.

The DBacks outlasted the Rangers in the opener, 3-2 in 13 innings at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Adam Jones solo home run in the top of the 13th proved to be the game winner.

This one was tied at 1-1 as the game went to extra innings. IN the top of the 12th, Steven Souza Jr hit a solo home run to left to put Arizona up 2-1. But Greg Holland could not hold that lead.

Ronald Guzman led off the bottom of the 12th with a single to right. Logan Forsythe then tried to bunt him over but the DBacks couldn’t get anyone out. Jeff Bandy successfully sacrificed the runners into scoring position. Holland then walked Elvis Andrus intentionally to load the bases. Delino DeShields then executed a perfect suicide squeeze to tie the game at 2-2. Holland got Patrick Wisdom to bounce out to end the inning.

Adam Liberatore came on with one out in the 13th and retired Nomar Mazaro and Sin Shoo Choo to end the game and pick up his first save.

Both starting pitchers were excellent in this one. Merrill Kelly went six innings, allowing just one run on five hits. Former DBack Shelby Miller went seven innings for Texas, allowing just one run on six hits.

Archie Bradley had a very encouraging outing, going three innings and allowing just two hits, while striking out four.

In the finale, Zack Greinke picked up his 10th win of the season, working 7 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out six and did not issue a walk.

A big fourth inning was the difference in this one. The DBacks broke open a 1-1 game with a Steve Souza RBI double to put them in front. Christian Walker followed that with a two-run single to center. Ketel Marte capped off the inning with an RBI single to center, scoring Walker.

Silvino Bracho got the final four outs to earn his first save on the season.

Big injury news in this one came in the bottom of the ninth. Christian Walker made a diving stop at first, but twisted his knee and it was revealed after that he likely has torn ligaments, which would end his season.

Arizona (49-47) now heads home for a four game series against Milwaukee (45-52) and three game series with Baltimore (33-63). The trade deadline is now two weeks away and with injuries piling up, it will be interesting to see if the DBacks turn into sellers.

          JULY 18-21: MILWAUKEE (47-54) @ ARIZONA (51-49)

          July 18: Brewers 9, DBacks 2
          July 19: DBacks 2, Brewers 1
          July 20: DBacks 7, Brewers 4
          July 21: Brewers 13, DBacks 7 (11)

The DBacks split a big series with the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend at Chase Field. The Brewers won a blowout in the opener, then scored six times in the 11th inning of the finale to pull out a huge win on Sunday afternoon to earn a split in the series.

The Milwaukee Brewers brought their sticks to the park on Thursday evening, pounding out 16 hits in a 9-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the opener of a four game weekend series. Mike Moustakas led the offensive explosion, going 2 for 5 with a double, home run and two RBIs in the victory.

Dallas Keuchel, excellent in his last start, was off on Thursday. He allowed seven runs on 11 hits in six plus innings of work. He did strike out seven and walk one.

Fan favorite here in Arizona, Ryan Braun, went 2 for 4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored for the Brewers.

The DBacks got another gem from Robbie Ray on Friday night as they slipped past the Brewers 2-1. Ray (9-4) pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits. He struck out eight and walked just one.

Arizona would get their offense from rookie Drew Ellis, who lined a single up the middle in the second to score Jake Lamb. It was his first career hit and first career RBI. Wilmer Flores would add an RBI single in the fourth, driving in Lamb again, after his second double of the game.

Milwaukee’s lone run came in the fifth inning as Lorenzo Cain tripled to center. He came home on an Orlando Arcia ground out.

Matt Koch was excellent again out of the bullpen, going 2 1/3 scoreless in relief. Adam Liberatore got Yasmani Grandal to strikeout to end the eighth with runners on first and second. Greg Holland pitched the ninth to pick up his 11th save.

Arizona jumped out to a 7-0 lead on Saturday evening as Zack Godley carried a no hitter into the sixth inning. But it got a little exciting in the end until Archie Bradley was able to send the Brewers down in order in the ninth to seal it and pick up his third save on the season.

The DBacks moved to a season high three games over .500 at (51-48).

Alex Avila hit a three run home run to key a five run rally in the third inning. It was his 16th home run on the season. Jake Lamb hit a solo shot in the fifth, his 25th on the year.

Jazz Chisholm continues to impress since being recalled from Triple-A Reno. He is batting .462 and had two more hits on Saturday evening.

Zack Godley (8-3) picked up the win, going six innings. He allowed a three run blast to Travis Shaw with two outs in the sixth after back-to-back singles from Christian Yelich and Jesus Aguilar broke up his no hitter. Godley also added a two-run single in the third inning to help break a scoreless tie.

The finale had all the drama of a late season or playoff game as the Brewers took the lead late, then gave it up, only to score six times in the 11th inning to win it 13-7. Yasmani Grandal hit a two-out bases clearing double in the top of the eighth off of Archie Bradley to give Milwaukee a 7-6 lead. He them homered to lead off the 11th off of Greg Holland to give Milwaukee the win.

Adam Jones came inches away from winning it for Arizona in the bottom of the ninth as he hit a rocket off the top of the wall off of Josh Hader to score Drew Ellis and tie the game at 7-7. Jones went 3 for 6 with a single, double, home run and he drove in two.

The DBacks (51-49) will now host the hapless Baltimore Orioles (34-65) in a three game series to close out the home stand.

            JULY 22-24: BALTIMORE (34-68) @ ARIZONA (54-49)

            July 22: DBacks 7, Orioles 6 (11)
            July 23: DBacks 7, Orioles 6 (16)
            July 24: DBacks 4, Orioles 1

The Arizona Diamondbacks completed a much needed sweep of the Baltimore Orioles to close out their seven game home stand. The first two games went to extra innings, spreading a thin bullpen even thinner, but with an off day on Thursday, it should help as they head east to take on Miami and the New York Yankees in the Bronx.

The DBacks took the opener 7-6 in eleven innings, winning it on a Ketel Marte inside-the-park home run off of Richard Bleier. It was Marte’s second home run on the evening and 12th on the season.

Arizona blew a 6-3 lead in the sixth inning as Matt Koch came on in relief of Zach Grienke and allowed a game tying two–run home run to Cedric Mullins.

Game two was a marathon with the DBacks pulling out the win in the sixteen inning as Blake Swihart singled home Katel Marte with two outs to secure the win. Marte thought that he had his second straight game winning home run as he homered off of Josh Lucas in the eighth. But Rio Ruiz led off the ninth with a solo home run off of DBacks closer Greg Holland to tie the game at 6-6.

Each team scored four times in the third inning with Adam Jones hitting a three run shot off of his former team. Ildemaro Vargas had five hits in six at bats for the DBacks. Alex Avila went 0 for 8.

The extra inning game was the DBacks third straight.

The DBacks would finish off the sweep on Wednesday afternoon behind a strong pitching performance from Robbie Ray as they defeated the Orioles 4-1. Ray (10-4) went seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits. He struck out seven and walked only one.

              DBacks Trade Greinke

Phoenix, AZ (AP) – In a stunning move, the Arizona Diamondbacks have sent Zack Greinke to the Pacific Northwest. The team completed a trade with the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday evening, sending Greinke to the Mariners in exchange for starting pitcher Felix Hernandez, first baseman Ryon Healy and left fielder Domingo Santana.

Greinke was (10-5) with a 3.23 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 122.2 innings for Arizona. The DBacks felt strapped by his contract, paying him $34.4M this year and in each of the next two seasons.

In return, Arizona acquires Felix Hernandez. The 14-year veteran was (6-6) with a 3.92 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 128.2 innings for Seattle. He is owed $27M this season and will be a free agent at year’s end.

Outfielder Domingo Santana is just 26-years-old and is under team control for the next two-seasons. He is in his fourth Major League season and was hitting .287 with 13 home runs and 37 RBIs for the M’s. He can play all three outfield positions.

Also included in the trade was first baseman Ryon Healy. The 27-year-old was hitting .277 with 19 home runs and 63 RBIs for Seattle. The right handed bat may give Arizona some flexibility with Jake Lamb in the final year of his contract. Healy has a team friendly $575k salary and is under team control for three more seasons.

It looks like Arizona may have fleeced the Mariners, but only time will tell. Seattle gets an ace in Greinke and the DBacks get some nice parts in return.

In a separate move, the DBacks sent outfielder Steven Souza Jr to San Diego in exchange for reliever Adam Warren. Warren is currently on the injured list with a shoulder issue, but should be ready to join the DBacks in a week or two. He has a 3.40 ERA in 45 innings pitched in 45 appearances for the Padres.

                July 27: Marlins 4, DBacks 3 (12)
                July 28: DBacks 5, Marlins 1
                July 29: DBacks 6, Marlins 2

The Arizona Diamondbacks stayed red hot as they opened up their road trip by taking three of four from the last place Miami Marlins in South Florida.

The DBacks took the opener 1-0 behind a sparkling pitching performance from Zack Godley (9-3). He pitched seven scoreless innings, scattering seven hits and striking out three.

The DBacks got the game’s lone run in the top of the first on a Jake Lamb RBI double.

Pablo Lopez (4-6) was the hard luck loser, pitching seven innings and allowing the lone run on four hits. He struck out nine and did not issue a walk.

NOTES: The Diamondbacks remain active on the trade front, sending closer Greg Holland to Detroit in exchange for SP Matthew Boyd. Boyd was assigned to Triple-A Reno. The DBacks also sent down Silvino Bracho to Reno and recalled both RP Tyler Lyons and RP Andrew Chafin.

The Marlins struck back in game two, rallying late when Yoan Lopez hit Peter O’Brien with the bases loaded to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth. Then Jorge Alfaro hit a solo home run to left with two outs in the 12th inning off of Matt Koch to end the DBacks four game winning streak, 4-3.

On Sunday afternoon, Eduardo Escobar made his return to the lineup after returning from the disabled list and made an immediate impact. He homered twice, going 3 for 4 with four RBIs as the DBacks defeated the Marlins 5-1.

Felix Hernandez made his Diamondbacks debut, working six innings and allowing one run on four hits. He struck out five and did not issue a walk.

The DBacks won the finale 6-2 behind a great pitching performance from Dallas Keuchel. He tossed 8 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, while striking out 8 and walking none.

Wilmer Flores went 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs in the victory, that moved the DBacks to a season high seven games over .500.

Jarrod Dyson had to be removed form the game in the fourth inning after sliding into third base. He injured his arm and X-rays revealed a broken forearm. He will likely miss the remainder of the season. The DBacks will place him on the disabled list and likely recall a player from Triple-A Reno.

They will now head to New York for a quick two game series with the Yankees (57-50) tomorrow and Wednesday.

The Diamondbacks split a quick two-game series in the Bronx as Major League Baseball headed into the trade deadline.

Aaron Judge hit a two-run home run with two-outs in the bottom of the eighth off of Matt Koch to put the Yankees in front as they held on for a 3-2 victory in the series opener.

Robbie Ray was magnificent for the DBacks, tossing seven innings and allowing just one run on five hits. He struck out nine and did not issue a walk. Jake Lamb went 3 for 4 with three doubles and drove in both of Arizona’s runs.

On Wednesday afternoon, the DBacks hit five home runs as they routed the Yankees 10-4 to split the two game series. Blake Swihart had a big day, going 3 for 5 with two home runs including a huge grand slam in the seventh that broke a 1-1 tie.

Zack Godley was very good, pitching 5 1/3 innings and allowing just one run on six hits. He struck out five and walked one, but did not get a decision in this one.

                      MLB TRADE DEADLINE

                        Aug 2: DBacks 4, Nationals 3
                        Aug 3: Nationals 5, DBacks 4 (12)
                        Aug 4: DBacks 9, Nationals 2

Arizona took two of three from the Washington Nationals in a huge series between two National League Wild Card contenders.

The DBacks took the opener 4-3, rallying in the sixth inning on an Alex Avila RBI double and Ildemaro Vargas RBI single to move ahead of the Nationals in the race for the National League Wild Card.

Merrill Kelly (4-5) picked up the win with a solid outing. He pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. Two of those came on home runs in the sixth inning that gave the Nationals a 3-2 lead.

Archie Bradley worked the ninth to pick up his fourth save on the season.

Notes: The DBacks activated recently acquired Adam Warren from the injured list and sent Jazz Chisholm back to Triple-A Reno.

The Nationals rallied late in Saturday evening’s game to come away with a huge 5-4 win in extra innings. Victor Robles hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth off of Archie Bradley to tie the ballgame. Anthony Rendon then hit a solo home run off of Yoan Lopez in the 12th to put the Nats in front as they pulled even with the DBacks for the second National League Wild Card spot.

Jake Lamb had a huge night for the DBacks going 3 for 5 with two home runs including a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to put the DBacks in front 4-3. He drove in three. Eduardo Escobar went 5 for 5 with three singles, a double and home run.

The DBacks took the rubber match, 9-2 on Sunday afternoon as they beat Stephen Strasburg. Strasburg dropped to (11-3) on the season.

Jake Lamb went 2 for 4 with another home run and two RBIs. He hit three home runs in the weekend series.

Ildemaro Vargas’ two-run triple in the sixth broke open a 2-1 game and sent the DBacks on their way to victory as they moved in to the second National League Wild Card spot, and now trail the Mets by just 1 ½ games for the top Wild Card spot.

Arizona will now host the Phillies (70-42) who have the best record in the National League

                          Aug 6: DBacks 7, Phillies 5
                          Aug 7: DBacks 5, Phillies 2

Arizona won two of three from the hottest team in the National League as they kept pace with the Washington Nationals for the second Wild Card spot.

The DBacks wasted a great start from Robbie Ray in the opener as Bryce Harper came through late with a couple of huge hits as the Phillies won 3-2. Harper hit an RBI triple in the seventh, then hit the game winning solo home run in the top of the ninth as the National League leading Phillies continued their magical season.

Robbie Ray took a no hitter into the sixth inning and was in control. But in the seventh he gave up a single to Cesar Hernandez, then a triple to Bryce Harper. Andrew McCutchen then beat out a double play to allow Harper to score the tying run off of reliever Tijuan Walker.

In the ninth it was Harper who took Walker deep for his league leading 39th home run.

Ketel Marte was the hero in game two as he his a walk-off three run home run off of Phillies closer Jose Alvarez with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Marte went 3 for 5 with two home runs and four RBIs as the DBacks rallied from a 5-1 deficit to get the huge win.

Jean Segura went 2 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs in the loss for Philadelphia. Jake Lamb, Ildemaro Vargas and Eduardo Escobar each had three hits for Arizona as they knocked out 14 hits in the victory.

Yoan Lopez picked up the win out of the bullpen, pitching two scoreless innings of relief.

For the second straight night, the DBacks rallied late to defeat the Phillies 5-2. Solo home runs from Adam Jones, Jake Lamb and Alex Avila in the bottom of the eighth sent the DBacks onto victory as they moved a season high nine games over .500 at (62-53).

Adam Liberatore picked up the win out of the bullpen, working a perfect eighth. Archie Bradley picked up his fifth save as he worked a perfect ninth inning.

Arizona will now hit the road to take on first place Los Angeles and Colorado.

The Dodgers cooled off the DBacks in Los Angeles this weekend, taking two of three and pretty much cementing the National League West.

The DBacks moved out to an early 4-0 lead on Friday night, then held on for a 6-5 win in 11 innings. Eduardo Escobar hit a solo home run off of Yimi Garcia to open the eleventh as the DBacks won their third straight game.

Jake Lamb went 4 for 6 with three doubles and an RBI in the win. Justin Turner, Cody Bellinger and A.J. Pollock each hit home runs for the Dodgers in the loss.

The Dodgers, paced by two solo home runs from Kiki Hernandez, took the second game on Saturday evening 5-1. Hyun-Jin Ryu (8-4) worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing just one run on six hits. He struck out four and walked two.

Eduardo Escobar went 3 for 4 in the losing effort for Arizona. Dallas Keuchel (6-3) took the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits over six innings.

In the finale, the Dodgers used the long ball early, hitting three home runs in the first two innings off of Robbie Ray, as they cruised to a 7-1 victory.

Clayton Kershaw tossed a complete game, allowing just one run on eight hits as he improved to (4-4) on the season. Cory Seager went 4 for 4 with a double and two home runs in the victory. He drove in four of the Dodgers runs.

Both Jake Lamb (11 games) and David Peralta (9 games) saw their hitting streaks end on Sunday.

Arizona will now head to Colorado for a three game series as they have fallen back into a tie for the second National League Wild Card with the Nationals.

                              Aug 14: Rockies 14, DBacks 7

The DBacks took two of three in the rarified air of Coors Field as the teams combined for 59 runs in the three game series. Offense was not in short supply as the ball was flying out of the yard.

The opener was a typical Coors Field slugfest as the DBacks pounded out 21 hits and six home runs, yet had to hold on for a 14-13 victory over the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies scored six times in the bottom of the ninth off of reliever Adam Liberatore, but Archie Bradley came in to get the final out to nail down his seventh save.

Eight players drove in runs for the DBacks including Zach Godley who hit a two run triple. Tim Locastro and Adam Jones were the only DBacks starters not to drive in a run.

The Rockies hit four long balls and added 17 hits in the loss.

The DBacks used the long ball again on Tuesday evening as they hit three home runs in a 7-4 victory over the Rockies at Coors Field. Domingo Santana, David Peralta and Eduardo Escobar went deep for the DBacks as they moved back to ten games over .500 and a full game ahead of the Nationals in the National League Wild Card chase.

Merrill Kelly (5-5) earned the win. He went 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. He struck out six and did not issue a walk. The bullpen worked 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief with Archie Bradley closing it out for his eighth save.

Trevor Story went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and RBI, while David Dahl went 3 for 4 with a double and home run for the Rockies in the loss.

The Rockies would avoid the sweep as they teed off of Felix Hernandez in the finale. They won 14-7, scoring nine runs on eight hits off of King Felix in just two innings of work.

Trevor Story went 2 for 4 with two home runs and drove in five to lead Colorado. Charlie Blackmon went 4 for 5 with a double, triple, two RBIs and three runs scored. Nolan Arenado homered and drove in three. Chris Iannetta hit a double, home run and drove in two.

Adam Jones, David Peralta and Wilmer Flores all homered for Arizona in the loss. Ketel Marte went 4 for 5 with a double and triple, scoring three runs.

Arizona will now return home for a seven game home stand against San Francisco (56-65) and these Rockies (59-63).

The DBacks took three of four from the San Francisco Giants, winning the final three, with each game ending in a shutout. The DBacks shutout the Giants over the final 34 innings in the series to move a season high 11 games over .500.

The Giants took the opener, shutting out the DBacks 2-0. Dereck Rodriguez tossed eight plus shutout innings, allowing seven hits while striking out three and walking none. Carlos Gonzalez and Evan Longoria hit solo home runs off of Dallas Keuchel in the first two innings to provide all of the offense that San Francisco would need.

Keuchel (6-4) pitched very well, tossing eight innings and allowing just four base hits while striking out six and walking one.

The DBacks offense returned in game two as they pounded out 16 hits in a 10-0 victory. Robbie Ray tossed a complete game four hitter to improve to (10-5).

Ketel Marte went 2 for 5 and drove in four runs in the win. He cleared the bases with a three-run triple in the second inning to get the DBacks going. Eduardo Escobar hit a three run off of the bench in the eighth inning to cap off the night.

Zack Godley picked up his 11th win on Saturday night, tossing six shutout innings, allowing just four hits and striking out six as he improved to (11-3). He would get all the offense that he would need in the third inning as Ketel Marte hit a two-run home run off of Andrew Suarez. It was Marte’s 17th on the season.

Domingo Santana gave Arizona some insurance in the seventh, hitting a bases clearing three-run double to blow the game open.

Adam Liberatore worked the final two scoreless innings in his first appearance since getting roughed up on Monday night in Colorado.

On Sunday afternoon it was a 3-0 shutout for the DBacks as four pitchers combined to allow eight hits and no runs. Merrell Kelly started the game but left after two innings injuring himself swinging the bat in his first plate appearance. Matt Koch (4-7) came on and worked four scoreless innings to pick up the win. Matt Lyons worked a perfect eighth and Archie Bradley worked the ninth to earn his ninth save.

Ketel Marte hit a two-run home run off of Jeff Samardjia in the third to give Arizona all the offense that they would need.

Arizona (68-57) will next welcome Colorado in for a three game series starting on Monday evening.

Notes: Merrill Kelly suffered a hamstring injury in his first at bat and was placed on the 10-day disabled list after the game. The DBacks recalled Matthew Boyd from Triple-A Reno to take his spot in the rotation. Boyd was acquired in late July in a trade from Detroit for Greg Holland. The lefty went (6-6) in 126 innings in Detroit with an ERA of 3.50.
