Thanks, guys. We have a few easy games before our "big" one against Virginia Tech.

Is going inside just your play style ? Proffitt was great last year but Forney didn't skip a beat.

Fun Fact: At this rate Forney will have 684 points scored and 288 rebounds this year.

Going outside does suit my play style, but Forney's height also has a lot to do with it. Nevertheless, I probably would not have recruited Forney if it weren't for my play style.

Over the years, you'll notice that I generally have some really good centers and/or power forwards. First was Martin Sow, then I had Cassiand Swift, then Owen Kole. I kind of lucked into Proffitt since he was already there, but I recruited Forney and now we have Grizzard and Shields lined up for the future.

My play style usually relies on a lot of inside shots by my bigs and a lot of threes. Sometimes, I will get away from this, but that seems to be the way I've generally played since I started this legacy. I do drive on occasion, but it isn't my primary offense. Allan Pena is really good at driving the basketball, though, and he usually gets most of the plays in that regard.

                Morgantown, WV
                November 15th, 2022

No. 18 West Virginia (2-0) pasted Wagner (1-4) this evening, as expected. The Seahawks kept pace for awhile, but they found themselves down 17 points at halftime and would go on to lose 81-48 in Morgantown.

The Mountaineers were led by a strong performance from Allan Pena. Pena scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in 22 minutes of action. Zachary Wooten hit three treys en route to 11 points while Osei Forney just missed out on a double-double, finishing with nine points, 10 rebounds, four steals, and a pair of blocks. Barry George did everything but score as he tallied four points, eight rebounds, and a career-best 12 assists while Gerrod Grizzard came off the bench to add 10 points and six rebounds.

Wagner was led by Poncho Crisp, who scored 12 points and tallied five assists. Aleksandar Rice was the only other Seahawk to score in double-figures as he ended with 11 points and six boards.

West Virginia will face its first real test of the season on Sunday, the 20th, as the Mountaineers will host the Virginia Tech Hokies.

I'm trying to work on that part of my game. In the past I generally go for a 3pt specialist PG/SG in basketball games and rain long outside shots. It's a huge dilemma with the team I have now. NOONE has range and only 1 person is above 70 from close. Most of my guys are decent in the mid range but considering the majority of my roster is 6'6 or shorter getting that shot over the defender is a big problem.

Looking forward to the rivalry battle. Hasn't Virginia Tech been decent in years or have they just been run of the mill, typical look good on paper and not on the court Virginia Tech?

I've never really had that problem. Even back when I started at Princeton, I had good shooters.

Mid-range shots are very tough to get off in this game. I don't think the spacing is done very well, which also contributes to this problem.

I don't have their records right in front of me, but they've generally been a mediocre middle-to-bottom ACC team most years. They have a decent team this year, but they still will probably finish mid-pack in the ACC, if I had to guess.

It probably should be 6. The rest of the team grabbed 39 of the 45 rebounds.

                              vs.
Virginia Tech (4-2) vs. #18 West Virginia (3-0)
                              WVU Coliseum
                              Morgantown, WV
                              November 20th, 2022

No. 18 West Virginia (3-0) passed its first test this Sunday afternoon as the Mountaineers thumped their rivals, the Virginia Tech Hokies (4-2), 71-45.

It was a dominating victory that was never really close outside the first few minutes, when the Hokies managed to keep pace. However, the Mountaineers would go on a long run late in the half that would see WVU seize a 36-19 halftime advantage. Things didn't go much better for the Hokies in the second half, either, as the Mountaineers continued to run the show all the way until the final whistle in the 26-point home victory.

The victory has some discussing whether this may be the best team Coach Frizzell has coached in Morgantown yet. Last year's team was certainly talented as was the National Championship-winning team two years ago, but this team is proving to be dominant on the defensive end thus far. The Mountaineers have won their first three games by an average score of 80-47.

"We are certainly proving to be dominant on the defensive end," commented Coach Frizzell about his team's successes thus far this year. "However, three games does not a season make, so we need to keep on working and keep on improving."

It should be noted that Virginia Tech is essentially a middling middle-of-the-pack ACC team, so this is a game that the Mountaineers should have won. Nevertheless, a 26-point victory was not what the experts expected.

Osei Forney led the Mountaineers with 17 points and eight rebounds. Barry George had a solid game, tallying 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists while Allan Pena added 10 points and four boards.

Dana McFadgon led the Hokies in scoring with 10 points.
