Tom Fow's 3-pointer gives Air Force the lead

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Air Force had two players score in double figures and shot 52.1 percent from the field in a 63-58 win over Tennessee State on Tuesday night.

Tom Fow led the Falcons (2-2) with 20 points and four rebounds, and Evan Washington added 17 points. Zach Bohannon had 6 points with a game-high seven rebounds, Scott Stucky added 6 points and Todd Fletcher scored 6 off the bench.

The Tigers (1-2) had the lead for almost the whole game but fell apart in the last five minutes. After scoring 39 points in the first half the Tigers only managed to score 19 in the second. The Falcons went on a 12-0 run to take a 56-55 lead on a 3-pointer by Fow with 3:25 remaining and never looked back.

"To a certain degree, I think it was a meltdown," Tennessee State coach John Cooper said. "We seemed to come apart at times, and when you play a team like Air Force, you can't afford to rush your shots. Obviously, we didn't play very well, but Air Force did a great job and Jeff had his team really prepared. In the second half they came out with great energy and had a sense of aggressiveness to them."

Robert Covington led Tennessee State with a game-high 26 points, while Kenny Moore had 13 and Patrick Miller added 4 points and ten assists.

The Tigers will end their twelve-day road trip when they face St. Louis University on Friday, Nov. 23, at 7 p.m.

Another tough loss for the Bears. Looks like my pick of Bucknell to do the best is looking good.

Are you playing all of these games? If you are, it will be quite the feat if you finish up the season.

Kenny Moore leads TSU to their second victory of the season

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Four starters scored in double figures Friday night as Tennessee State defeated Saint Louis 84-77.

Kenny Moore led the Tigers (2-2) with 19 points and added five rebounds, three assists and four steals. Robert Covington had 17 points and six rebounds. Patrick Miller scored 14 and Wil Peters added 10 points for the winners.

"They're a great streak shooting team. They seem to feed off each other. They're unselfish," Majerus said. "Wherever you make a mistake defensively, the ball seems to end up with that player. ... They're going to make some, you just don't want to give them second shots. They're really good at kicking the ball out to the 3-point line when you give them second shots."

The final score was the largest margin of the game. The Tigers, who made 55.5 percent of their shot attempts in the second half, broke away from a 65-65 tie with an 6-0 run in the second half, and after the Billikens got it back to 77-77, Tennessee State scored the next 7 points.

Kyle Cassity had 19 points and three rebounds for Saint Louis (2-4). Brian Conklin added 16 points and five rebounds for the Billikens. The Tigers managed to hold Saint Louis' best offensive player Mike McCall to just four points.

The Tigers made 12 of 22 from 3-point range in the contest, with Covington connecting four times and Kenny Moore three times.

The Tigers will return home to face Belmont on Thursday, Nov. 29, inside the Gentry Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

"Our ball-handling and passing are not the best right now," Southern Utah coach Roger Reid said. "We just don't have anybody stepping up and taking control."

The Thunderbirds led 53-49 with 4:45 to play before Southern took control. Southern Utah scored just two points in the next 4:29, as the Jaguars moved ahead 59-55 with 16.3 seconds remaining. For the game, Southern scored 16 points off 12 turnovers.

"I think they played great defense," Reid said. "We were trying to get jump shots but we couldn't get clean shots off and we couldn't pound the ball down low."

Reid added the lack of sufficient timeouts prevented the Thunderbirds from making adjustments.

"Normally, you'd like to call a timeout and draw up something to help them get through this," Reid said. "But we used way too many timeouts early that we needed late. We had one left and we needed to save it till a minute to go."

Southern's top scorers Julius Ingram and Blake Sanford both missed the game with ankle injuries.

Johnson celebrates after his 3-point basket

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Of all the positives Bucknell coach Dave Paulsen has seen from his Bison at the O'Reilly CBE Classic, his clear-cut favorite has nothing to do with shooting or defense.

"That composure," Paulsen said. "In several of our games this year we've shown it. And that's good to see so early in the year."

Bucknell relied on it again Friday to hold off a late Wofford rally and advance to the tournament's title game with a 82-66 victory.

The Bison had watched a 15-point lead slip to seven but pulled out the win behind Bryson Johnson's 21 points and Mike Muscala's first double-double of the season. He had 28 points and 13 rebounds.

"Good teams, well-coached teams, are going to make runs," Paulsen said. "It's how we respond, to settle down and say, 'Let's take that away."

Johnson and Muscala were big factors in making that happen.

Johnson regained Georgetown's grip with a 3-pointer that started a 15-4 run that clinched things. Muscala was a force underneath, rarely giving Wofford post players room to move.

Bucknell will face #9 UCLA for the tournament title Saturday night. The Bruins beat Maryland 62-56 Friday night.

Tim Johnson led the Terriers with 17 points, Brad Loesing had 11 and Noah Dahlman finished with 10 points. Cameron Rundles scored 6 points and added four assists.
