What's wrong with the Cleveland Indians? Not sure.

But I believe it's more a combination of things rather than just one specific area.

First I see that there has been a failure in the area of player development. This has been addressed by hitting the free agent marked and by making trades. In my opinion, the Indians have done well in this area, but it may be too early to reap the benefits of this. So that would be area #2: Need to wait for the team to come together while possibly adding another arm...which leads me into my third area.

Left handed pitching. Bottom line, Cleveland needs a left handed pitcher. One. At least one. If for no other reason than to throw off the competition a little.

But, in the grand scheme of things, I don't believe that the Indians are quite as far away as their record suggests.

My advice: Stay the course, continue to develop talent and don't panic.

Just like always, the Mariners are in the think of things. After missing the playoffs last season, Seattle looks to get back to their winning ways in 2007.

The only problem is they play in the same division as the Oakland A's and the Anaheim Angels.

All three teams have battled it out year after year, with the race coming down to the wire every time.

If the Mariners continue to develop good young players and acquire the right mix through free agency, then I don't expect them to fall anytime soon. They do have some budgetary concerns headed their way, but it's nothing that a trip to the post-season couldn't cure.

That's what the rest of the National League Central is saying.

While the team is currently tied for third place, they have spent numerous weeks this season holding the top spot. And that's no small feat. With none of it's teams under .500, the National League Central is the strongest division in baseball.

Pittsburgh has gotten good two ways. First, they built the lineup through frugal, yet extremely selective and effective trips to the free agent list. Then they built the bullpen from the ground up, while importing Uggie Urbina to tag team with Mike Williams to form one of the most imposing late inning obsticles in the game.

If the team could just add a frontline pitcher to the rotation, well I'd really love to see what they could accomplish.
