    The Starting Lineup + Outlook

The Panthers season ended last year in the Sweet 16 to Oklahoma State. They will face OSU again in the reuglar season this year.

The Pittsburgh Panthers have to wonder why they are still expected to be a Big East power. While Julius Page has graduated, this team still posses plenty of potent firepower on their roster. Unfortunately, they will have to find other ways to do it, instead of by outisde shooting.

Pg Carl Krauser is a year older, and is ready to inherit this team as his own. He will run the show as a fan favorite, hopefully leading Pitt to a wonderful season. Krauser is by far the heart and soul of this team, and the Panthers will go as far as he does.

Sg Keith Benjamin (Freshman from Mt.Vernon,NY) will be a great fit for the team, as he brings athleticism on both ends of the floor. He's a decent shooter, but most of his points and assist will come in transition.

Sg John DeGroat (Freshman from Monticello,NY) is another young buc eager to come into the university providing athleticism and rebounding. Even though DeGroat and Benjamin will most likely start games, they are mainly on the floor to run the brak with Carl Krauser, who will be more than happy to throw it above the rim for a momentum chanching jam.

Forward Chevy Troutman was one of the unsung heroes that was reason for Pitt's success last year. He will be a force on the boards in his final season. Althogh undersized, he brings tough rebounding schools and combines them with a potent midrange game to help spread defenses in Pitt's halfcourt offense that will most likely struggle.

Forward Chris Taft carries big expectations on his shoulders this season, after tremendous freshman year in which he averaged 10.9 points and 7.5 rebounds. The Coney Island prospect turned heads last year with his impressive post-game and footwork. He will only get better this season.

            Game 1 v Howard

            Howard Bison @Pittsburgh Panthers

The Panthers took on the Howard Bison earlier tonight, and it was ugly from the start for the Howard Bison. Pittsburgh ran all over them, literally. Krauser got his Panthers into an early track meet and alleyoops were thrown plenty of times between John DeGroat and Keith Benjamin, both High School Superstars from New York City.

The Panthers made an impression on the rest of the country that they will be successful if they get out and run every chance they get. Against Howard, they took advantage of the oppurtunities which lead to an 86-50 rout.

            Pitt Stats
            64% shooting from the field
            28 assist
            35 rebounds

Carl Krauser 19 points, 8 assist, 7/11 field goals
Chris Taft 10 points, 14 rebounds
Chevvy Troutman 10 points, 10 rebounds, 1/1 Three Point Shooting
John DeGroat 15 points, 6 assist

Next Game - v Robert Morris

I really doubt that I'll stop doing this. I KNOW I'll do at least one year. This team is very fun to coach. Krauser runs the show for me, and I encourage them to get out in transition all the time.

                            Panthers give Colonials Eventual Beating.

Robert Morris Colonials @ Pittsburgh Panthers

Coming off of an 86-50 victory over Howard, the Panthers await the Robert Morris Colonials who were 3-0 coming into the game. The Colonials put up a very good fight, and were surprisingly competitive for the whole first half. RMU had their highest lead with about 2 minutes to go in the first half, up 7. Pitt finished the half on a run, and led 33-32.

In the second half, Carl Krauser and Keith Benjamin stole the show from forwards Chevvy Troutman and Chris Taft. Pitt dominated the perimeter game on offense and defense, and got back to running up and down the floor, getting easy buckets in transition, something that will most likely get them offense all year.

Pittsburgh ends up winning the game 75-54.

                            Pitt Stats
Keith Benjamin 20 points, 4 assist, 8/13 Free Throws
Carl Krauser 18 points, 5 assist, 4 rebounds
John DeGroat 11 points, 8 assist, 5 rebounds
Chris Taft 14 points, 11 rebounds
                            51% field goals, 28 assist, 35 rebounds
