The Auburn Tigers traveled to Starkville to go up against the 10th ranked Bulldogs of Mississippi State. Coach Neverett understood his team was a huge underdog, but thoroughly believed they could keep it close against the 'dogs.

Early on, Coach Neverett looked like a very smart man. His Auburn Tigers kept it more than close, they actually held the lead for most of the period. Toney Douglas came out and scored quick, early, and often, helping his team to an early lead. The fabulous freshman also setup teammates for numerous easy buckets, and things were going very well for Auburn. Lawrence Roberts, one of the nations best big men, got into early foul trouble and wasn't much of a factor. Going into the break, Auburn led by three points.

The second half was very competitive, as Winsome Frazier continued his hot play for Mississippi State and Douglas did the same for Auburn. Roberts came back into the game, but wasn't his usually-dominant self, missing numerous easy buckets and choking at the line many times. After a stretch of runs, in which numerous lead changes occurred, Auburn held the lead. With only a minute left, MSU decided to foul, giving the Tigers the 78-74 upset victory.

The fourteenth ranked Florida Gators took on the Auburn Tigers, right after the "War Eagle" crew took down the tenth ranked MSU Bulldogs. Florida was anything but overconfident after seeing Auburn manhandle the 'dogs, and the Tigers felt strong on their homecourt.

To begin the game, the Tigers were lights out. After getting Florida guard Matt Walsh into foul trouble, and constant double teams on Anthony Roberson, Auburn was able to jump out to a comfortable lead behind their awesome shooting. The Tigers went on a series of runs, including a 20-6 run that gave them a huge cushion over the Gators. However, Florida answered with a 16-2 run of their own, and pulled to within five points at the half.

After the intermission, the Gators played great basketball. Right out of the gate, Florida used a 27-6 run to jump out to the big lead, and Auburn never really recovered. Toney Douglas had his usual great game, but it just wasn't enough, as the Gators bested the Tigers, 87-78.
