Colby wrote an article for Players Tribune that explains most of that.

Didn't like that Oregon State wiped out the coaching staff.

Is from WV and wanted to be closer to home because his grandfather is sick and him, his mom and his grandfather are all they have.

I thought about a number of schools. Louisville was an option with them looking for a replacement for Lamar Jackson. Ultimately he wanted to be as close to home as possible. WVU is closer but they have Grier as we are currently in the 2018 season. Pitt was an option but their offense wasn't as good of a fit. Virginia has HC Bronco Mendenhall who ran a lot of option and spread type stuff previously. Virginia does have a good team and a winnable schedule. Not sure a national championship is in the cards but most of the teams that look like the top tier have QBs. Fromm, Burrow, Tua, Fields, Hurts, Lawrence etc.

In summary, closer to home, no established starter, fitting offense and good conference were the goals.

Great question, I should have posted this beforehand.

Re: My Way | Colby Porter Jr

Also, along with the behind the scenes type stuff above I had a couple more things I wanted to make clearer.

I'm using an excellent 2018 roster for this season so the other schools look a lot like they did that season.

Up to this point we're saying that everything in the world of college football and the NFL happened as it did in real life.

With Colby in Virginia things are sure to get shaken up in the national scene and with awards so we will be making more of a transition into the "world of make believe".

I'm going to really look at a number of factors following this season to try to determine Colby's draft value and how he stacks up against Murray, Jones, Haskins etc. I'll probably asks for y'alls help with that too.

Thanks to those reading. I appreciate it. This is the furthest I've made it with a "RTG" and I'm really excited to see where things go.

COLBY PORTER JR DIVES IN FOR A RUSHING TOUCHDOWN IN VIRGINIA'S WIN OVER NC STATE

Colby Porter Jr threw for 153 yards and two scores while adding two more rushing touchdowns and 142 yards on the ground in Virginia's 38-24 win over NC State. Porter Jr. threw one interception in the win. Virgina is now 3-0 on the season. Porter Jr has started to show up on some Heisman watch lists.

"I'm not really paying a lot of attention to that." Porter Jr replied when asked about the early Heisman chatter. "I think it's cool I guess but when you start focusing on that stuff or paying attention to it too much that attention is taken off of other areas where it should be when you're in the middle of a season. We've got team goals and I'm more interested in those."

Virginia (3-0) will face Ohio (1-0) next week in a game that has been moved to Vanderbilt Stadium due to the expected effects of hurricane Florence.

Georgia Tech rolled up over 300 yards rushing and their stout defense held Virginia's offense to their lowest point total of the season as the Cavaliers lost their first game of the season by a score of 21-20.

Colby Porter Jr was under pressure the entire game and did well to escape the majority of attempted sacks. He threw for 272 yards and a score on 21 of 25 passing and added 117 yards and a score on the ground. Georgia Tech kept Porter Jr and the rest of the Virginia offense off the field, winning the time of possession battle nearly 2-1.

Virginia got the ball back with just under two minutes to play and Porter Jr got them to the 17 yard line before turning things over to Delaney. Delaney's kick went wide right and the Cavs lamented their first loss of the season.

"Just worked up and over kicked it." Delaney said later when asked about the kick.

"Great game plan and great execution by those guys. Got to give them credit and got to take something away and learn and get better from in." Bronco Mendenhall said after the loss.

Following the loss Virginia dropped to #16 in the coaches poll.

Virginia (7-1) hosts North Carolina (3-5) next week.

With just over a minute left to play Rosier connected with freshman receiver Dee Wiggins on a slant. The big receiver broke a tackle and went 71 yards to the house. Baxa tied things up at 31-31 and the game headed to overtime.

Virginia won the toss and elected to start on defense. Virginia's Osiris Crutchfield tipped a fourth down field goal attempt by Baxa. Brian Delaney missed a field goal attempt for Virginia and the game went into overtime number two.

COLBY PORTER JR STRETCHES FOR ONE OF HIS RUSHING SCORES AGAINST TECH

After 14 straight loses in their annual rivalry game against Virginia Tech the Cavs went into Blacksburg and dominated, coming away with a 35-14 victory.

Colby Porter Jr threw for 197 yards and two scores with no picks. He completed just 12 of 23 passes but wasn't helped by a number of drops. He added two scores and 147 yards on the ground.

Porter Jr set the Virginia single season records for both passing and rushing yardage in the win. He was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week yet again.

Virginia finishes their regular season 10-2 and ranked 14th in the coaches poll. They are expected to receive and accept a bowl bid in the coming weeks.

"Great way to cap the season." Porter Jr said after the game. "It didn't take long to figure out what this game means."

Kyler Murray and Colby Porter Jr. made history on the field this past season but that wasn't the only place where the duo shocked the sports world. For the first time ever there was a tie for the Heisman Trophy. Murray edged Porter Jr in first place votes 323 to 319 while Porter Jr had more second place (269 to 266) and third place (47 to 41). The result was a tie for the top spot with a total of 1,542 points each.

Tua Tagovailoa finished third in voting with 1,356 total points and had 421 third place votes. After that were Dwayne Haskins and Will Grier with 437 and 116 points total.

Porter Jr and Murray went back and forth for the second half of the season with Porter Jr taking a perceived lead after his eight touchdown performance in a five overtime loss at Miami. Murray's performance in the Big 12 title game win over Texas boosted him back up and many thought Murray would ultimately win the trophy by a narrow margin.

"It's an incredible honor to be recognized with these other incredible players." Porter Jr said. "It means a ton to me to be able to be up here with these guys after what we've all been through to get here. I consider all of them to be friends now and it's going to be a bunch of fun to hopefully keep competing with them going forward.

Porter Jr topped Murray for the Maxwell and Walter Camp by narrow margins while Murray claimed the O'Brien with some breathing room.

Murray has been talked about as a definite first round pick, possibly number one overall while Porter Jr, considered to be a less polished passer and a candidate for a position change at the NFL level is projected anywhere between the third and sixth rounds with his performance in Virginia's upcoming bowl game, the Senior Bowl and at the NFL combine all being significant factors.

VIRGINIA PLAYERS GET FIRED UP BEFORE KICK OFF

Virginia capped their outstanding season by securing their 11th win in dominant fashion, topping Tennessee by a final score of 49-27 in a game that wasn't even that close.

Porter Jr. went 15 for 15 passing with 236 yards and a pair of scores. He also ran for 165 yards and three scores on 17 carries. He was named MVP of the game.

Virginia led 21-13 at halftime with scores coming on a five yard touchdown pass from Porter Jr. to Olamide Zaccheaus, a short run by Jordan Ellis, and a short run up the middle by Jamari Peacock.

PORTER JR CONNECTS WITH ZACCHEAUS FOR A TOUCHDOWN

Tennessee's first half scores came via a Jarrett Guarantano pass to Ty Chandler and a short run by Chandler. Tennessee missed the second point after.

Porter Jr. led a 21-0 scoring run in the second half, scoring twice on runs and throwing a second touchdown pass to Zaccheaus.

PORTER JR SCORES ON A PAIR OF SECOND HALF TOUCHDOWN RUNS

Tennessee scored early in the fourth quarter and Porter Jr. answered with a third touchdown run, making it 49-20 midway through the fourth.

Tennessee scored again with 30 seconds left to make it 49-27.

"Outstanding season from everyone involved." Head coach Bronco Mendenhall said after the win. "Lot's of big performances and a great way to cap it." He was cut short by Porter Jr. and linebacker Mikey McDonald.

MENDENHALL IS HOISTED FOLLOWING THE WIN

Virginia has never won 11 games in a season and it is only their second season with double digit wins, the other being a 10 win campaign in 1989.

PORTER JR AND ELLIS CELEBRATE THE HISTORIC WIN

Porter Jr's performance puts him at the top of a number of single season record lists for Virginia. His 2,052 yards tops the former record of 1,798 set by Thomas Jones in 1999. He shattered the previous school rushing touchdown record of 18 set by Gene Mayer in 1915 with 26. On the passing side of things he set school records with 3,269 yards and 36 touchdowns, passing Kurt Benkert's 3,207 yards from 2017 and Matt Schaub's 28 touchdowns set in 2002.

Olamide Zaccheaus also tied Billy McMullen's single season receptions record from 2001 with 83 and set a new school record with 16 touchdowns, break Herman Moore's 13 set in 1990.

QB COLBY PORTER JR DELIVERS A PASS DURING THE THIRD QUARTER OF THE SENIOR BOWL

Former Virginia QB Colby Porter Jr. put on a show in the 70th annual Senior Bowl.

Each of the teams four quarterbacks played a quarter in the game, which is played under slightly modified rules.

West Virginia's Will Grier played the first quarter and Washington State's Gardner Minshew played the second.

When Porter Jr took over to start the third quarter the South trailed the North 27-12. By the time he was done they had a 33-27 lead.

PORTER JR AVOIDS THE PASS RUSH AND DELIVERS A PASS

Porter Jr completed 6 of 7 pass attempts for 96 yards and a score and ran for 87 yards and a pair of scores on six carries.

"Great showing for him." South coach Kyle Shanahan said of Porter Jr's performance. "He's a lot of fun to watch and he does a lot of the things you want your quarterback to do. He had a great week of practice and I think he showed some of those detractors something."

PORTER JR CONNECTS WITH GARY JENNINGS JR FOR A TOUCHDOWN

Porter Jr connected with West Virginia's Gary Jennings Jr on the touchdown pass, a seven yard score. His rushing scores came on a six yard run up the middle on a read option keep. He finished that run by bowling over North safety Nasir Adderley. Porter Jr's other touchdown run came on a 33 yard scramble.

PORTER JR RUNS DOWN THE SIDELINE ON HIS WAY TO A 33 YARD TOUCHDOWN RUN

The North would come back to win, scoring on a 21 yard run by Tony Pollard in the fourth quarter which was set up by an Adderley interception.

"It was a ton of fun." Porter Jr said after the game. "It was great getting to play with all those guys and to work with the coaching staff we were able to. Lot's of fun for sure."

Porter Jr was joined by Virginia's Juan Thornhill in the game.

Both players will now begin preparations for the NFL Combine which takes place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis March 1st through March 4th.
