    KSU vs Army

Army Has Fallen Apart Without Us

We are facing our old team Army and honestly it was sad to see. If we had stayed this was the year we would have been playoff locks. The group of OL are now all senior's and all been starting 3 to 4 years. The QB Armani Kern and HB Nathan Rachel would be entering year 3.

Our #1 WR catches a TD on a supposed to be slant pattern to make it 10 to 0. DE Witherspoon for us gets a sack on 3rd down. QB Lyles fumbles as he is crossing the endzone and it's recovered by the backup FB and nobody officially scores it. After swapping interceptions its 17 to 7 at halftime.

On a 3rd and goal Lyles scrambles and run it in for a TD (24-7). The 170 pound "power back" scores on a wide open lane (31-7). We tried passing with a comfortable lead in the 4th unfortunately they had 3 guys in the backfield as soon as the ball was snaped. Sua Mix the player of the week gets a pick 6 with under 2 minutes. We had less then 300 yards of offense despite being +3 in turnovers we leave frustrated.

This may have been the ugliest game we have played in a while so don't let the final score trick you. The rain was the cause for this and we didn't try and run the option because of that. The lack of time for us to pass also really frustrated Napier. It's sad to see your old team become a pushover again and Army only won 2 or 3 games year 1 without us. The players like QB Armani Kern and HB Nathan Rachel would be stars with us instead they don't even see the field. Juan Corp was the QB in our first recruiting class and had 4 turnovers. They did pretty good running the ball just the pass game killed them as we got a lot of sacks and turnovers

Editor's Note - I've tweaked the OL sliders to help the CPU out

I guess those interceptions happen in real life (I know Cal had one that bad yesterday), but I don't know what the CPU is doing on those. My LB's pile up INT on just dumb passes like that all the time.

      Good win though!

I hadn’t played defense with these sliders lately outside of using my elite UGA defense. I’ve bumped them up a little to help the cpu offense. I guess my skill level has improved bc I was bad. My next two games are pretty much automatic loses so that will be a good test. The cpu plays horrible with the flexbone offense so that prob played a big role in that game

          UGA Destroys Kennesaw State

We are going to skip the video, full box score and game recap as this one got ugly and reminded KSU how far they still have to go. UGA is the #1 team in the country and the best recruiting class in college football history is now upperclassmen. The biggest freak on team is WR Pat Allman. The 6'6 physical WR has 97 speed, 87 strength, 98 catch, 99 catch in traffic, 99 spec catch, 99 jump and so on.

UGA took a 34 to 0 lead into the locker room. The 1st half Napier didn't even try to throw the ball and attempted to the 2nd half. That was a mistake leading to a total of 3 interceptions. One thing that really made Napier made was UGA not subbing the starters out in the 4th quarter. Despite being up 55 in the final 2 minute the entire 1st unit was in. UGA Junior HB Phillip Ekuban (elite dev) had a monster day 21 carries for 159 yards, 6 catches for 96 yards and 3 TD. He ended up breaking his collarbone in the final minute of the game something we heard secretly made Napier happy.

The stud WR we talked about earlier was held in check just 40 yards. Senior Nitro Tuggle wasn't a monster day 132 yards and 4 TD. KSU only had 270 yards of offense with just 60 coming in the air. A rough day for QB Lyles 6 fo 19, 2 interceptions. 60 passing yards with a team leading 52 on the ground. No sacks or turnovers from the defense.

            KSU vs Smoky Mountain

            Napier Faces Another Old Team

Today's game ends up the non conference schedule and its last year's team Smoky Mountain Black Bears. Napier helped lead the team to a bye in the 1st round last year before losing its first game. They come in with no losses and ranked top 10.

SMU gets on the board fist with a TD run by Beach. We fumble while running with the QB and its picked up for a TD (0-14). Things would get worse the next drive we make another crucial turnover this time a interception that also went for a TD. That made it 21-0 at half it was looking like another blowout game.

We start the 3rd quarter with the ball and get nothing going mostly because pressure. We would score on QB run on 4th and goal at the 3 (7-21). The Beach who was our #3 HB breaks off a 75-yard TD run on the very next play (7-28). We bounce back and score again on 4th and goal in the late 3rd (14-28). Lighting strikes a 3rd time and a QB scramble on 4th and goal scores a TD and we are only down 7. With just a few minutes to go they ice the game with a FG and add on a safety after that.

This is one we are counting as a good loss with how we came back in the 2nd half to make it close. We haven't went with the dual QB system the last 2 games and thought Lyles played good minus the one pick 6. He had over 200 yards passing and this is with a weak WR/TE unit. The 4 sacks bring down the totals for rushing, he made some plays with his feet and scored 2 rushing TD's. We were surprised our QB from last year struggled like he did. Beach did have a big game on the ground and combined with winning the turnover race keeps SMU without a loss.

This will be my last post for about 2 weeks. I'm headed on a 9-day cruise tomorrow which is why the updates have ben a little lacking lately. As far as the game goes prob be good for me to take a little break with the amount of hours I've put into this game. I'll be back with updates around November 22/23.

KSU Blown Out Against Old Dominion

This was a tough game coming off a long break on the road vs one of the best conference teams on paper. Old Dominion is 3-1 and KSU coming off a tough non-conference schedule. The game was also in the rain and that played a factor with two 2nd quarter fumbles. One of them a pitch that was intercepted and another one in the pocket. The 2nd quarter was a nightmare with KSU giving up 24 points in the 2nd quarter to be down 31 to 14 at half. After being outscored by 10 more in the 3rd the route was on. A ugly 48 to 21 loss with @Liberty on the road next

The -3 turnovers played a huge role and the field position battle as the total yards were just 389 to 308. The upside starting QB John Lyles was just ok 52%, 153 pass yards, 1 TD, 1 Int with under 2 yards per carry. Starting HB Mixon put up a little over 100 yards with 2 TD. While true freshman FB Schulters had 49 yards receiving.

Re: Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense (CFB25)

                  5 Big KSU Storylines

                  1. Kennesaw State got back in the Win column and are now 4-3 with a ugly 13 to 10 win on the road at Liberty. Both teams were right around just 300 yards of offense. The backup QB Tutt who holds school record threw a TD as both QB's threw for 75 yards. The defense is the reason for this win as the run game was just 3.2 yards per play

                  2. Another ugly win last game vs the now 1-6 Southern Miss. The offense did a little better with 402 yards and winning turnover battle by 2. It was again the backup QB Tutt who was the better playing QB. He had 134 passing yards and 29 on the ground. No HB got over 50 yards so not much to talk about stat wise. Lyles the starting QB was bothered by injury and did score 2 rushing TD's.

                  3. The first big injury of the year happened with start RT Ben Kienz (80 ovr). He tore his rotator cuff and the senior has played his last down. The depth at OT is good and Zay Longo (83 ovr) will take over who has played some this year. Zay isn't a scheme fit as he is a pass blocker where Kienz is the oppsitie

                  4. We may have found something at the FB spot which has been a major issues this year with just 2 on the roster. Senior David Ogbogu took over because injury and ran very hard 48 yards on 9 carries. He shouldn't be any better then our normal stater as he a is blocker with 70's for running skills. We will give him another chance this year.

                  5. John Lyles is still the guy Napier is committed to at QB. His stats haven't been what you want just 48% passing, 105 passing per game, 5 TD, 7 Int with 5 more rushing TD's. But he likes his upside and doesn't have many skill players at all around him. We do think he will put up better stats as the year goes on and the schedule gets softer. A 6'5 224 pound QB with star development and upside. We need him to have a good offseason and improve on that quickness/elusivness.

                    KSU vs Marshall

                    Injuries Mounting Up

The game got started off perfectly for what we want a 15 play drive. This meant the senior FB we talked about scoring a short TD run. Marshall would take the lead with TD's on the next 2 drives. We had them 3rd and long and they score again TD and now we are down 21 as half time is near. When halftime got here it was 24 to 14.

The next 2 offensive drives would be what did us in as We are driving close to the redzone. Our 4th string HB drops a pass and then we get a flag and miss a FG. The defense holds and we get the ball back again near the redzone. We convert a 4th and one, but a holding call takes it away and we come away with no points. The defense keeps is in it and we hold them to 3 so still a 2 score game with 10 min remaining. We are down to our 4th string HB and the toss from the power I loses yards and that will be the game.

This is the 2nd conference loss for Kennesaw State so need to win the rest of them to make the championship game. The HB spot got paper thin with our starting FB and top 3 HB's all leaving the game with injuries. Despite the loss we were encouraged scoring 20 points and 356 offense yards with all the HB injuries. The defense hold them to 6 points in the 2nd half despite not having any turnovers. QB Lyles also was at 61% passing on 26 attempts and no turnovers. WR Tyrone Lewis continues his big year and is just a sophomore. He has 281 yards and 4 TD on the year which is pretty good in this offense. The bad news is he doesn't have any upside.

                      Recruiting Update

We are excited to get back to talking about recruiting the favorite part of our job. KSU brings much more difficulty than even Army with a max of 350 hours and no grades even C+. Basically, we can only go after players nobody wants, and we can't really bring them to campus for visits. We only went have a small handful of 3* so mostly 2*. The limited hours means we have players on our board all year we haven't been able to scout. Thankfully our senior class is smaller still we need to sign 20 players atleast. We normally would have 10+ commits and now are just at 5.

                      ATH Alejandro Salcedo
The #1 player on our board a 3* gem projected to be a MLB at 6'2 240. A speed guy 92 with 89 agility and 88 acceleration. His 85 tackling and 69 zone coverage makes him a lock for a good LB. However we wonder if he could be a FB/ B back for as he also has 78 strength. Unfortunately, LB/ FB isn't possible for a 2 way player.

                      ATH Kris Schwab
Yet another 3* gem and one of the few we have found so far. He isn't quite the athlete as Salcedo with 89 speed, 86 agility, 91 acceleration. His tackling at 79 is worse, but better in zone coverage. He has the team player badge so is a candidate as well to move to OLB or FB.

                      HB Demarcus Clare
A 2* gem that will play right away as we don't have a power back on the roster. He has 80 strength, 83 trucking and 77 break tackle. His speed is a bit all over the place 88 speed, 85 acceleration and 79 agility.

                      HB Parker Toone
A similar prospect to Clare above as a 2* gem. Hopefully one of them can make the move to the B back / FB spot.

                      ATH Malik Moncrief
We have a young QB that can throw the ball and we have zero TE/ WR with upside on the roster. He is projected as a TE at 6'4 240. We have tried putting these types of players at WR in the past, but we haven't stayed long enough at a school to see how they project. As a 3* recruit he is one of the top players we will bring in. We know his speed is prob low to mid 80s, but his run blocking will be great in this offense. It may come down to where he can see the field at the most year 1

Disappoing Loss Makes KSU Below .500

                        Drops & Mistakes Destroy Offense

The defense did its part holding UL Monroe (a 500 team) to just 7 points at half time. The 3rd quarter while driving UL Monroe picked up a fumble and returned it for a TD. This wasn't the typical bad pitch on a option it was a strip when going back to pass. They would go on to add two FG's and had a total of 20 points so just 13 of those on offense. The offense wouldn't get on the board until the 4th quarter when TE Scifres (77 ovr) caught a TD pass. Kennesaw had a chance to come back and a controversial call on 4th and goal where somehow the refs ruled the HB short of the endzone. Check the video out below, but it sure looked like a TD to us. UL Monroe gets the ugly win 20 to 10. This means KSU has to win 2 of 3 to make a bowl game.

Despite getting the shaft on the 1 call KSU didn't deserve to win this game as they shot themselves in the foot. We had 429 yards of offense and gave up just 210 and lost by double digits. Two major reasons for that 4th down conversions always a strength of Napier's powerbone offense. The lack of a power back really showed and went a ugly 1 of 7. The biggest reason was drops in 32 passes a unheard of 10 drops.

This meant QB Lyles went 14/32 with 159 yards, 67 rushing yards, 1 TD and 1 Int. He lead the team in rushing with everyone else having less then 40. The HB room is really feeling the lack of depth and wear and tear. The frustrating part the 10 drops was divided up amongst 6 players. Napier had said he will shake up the offense going forward and play some new players.

Editor's Note - This season has dragged on so I'm going to get it over soon. I think the passion will heat up year 2 when I get some of my own players in.

QB Fayad Shines as Starting WR

With the hideous UL Monroe game with 10 drops Napier had to think outside the box for some skill players. Sophomore Damarius Fayad the 3rd string QB is very athletic 85 speed, 95 acceleration and 91 agility at 6'2. He has only thrown 10 passes this year and is capable of playing WR with 80 catch and mostly solid route running. We do have high hopes for him next year so we thought why not let's start him at WR the last 3 years. Maybe this will help him reach his full potential at QB (4 more bars to go).

He has started the last 3 games and played a few quarters of the UL Monroe game and has been super productive. He has 16 catches, 298 yards and 2 TD with 18.6 per catch. He worst game was on the road at James Madison where he dropped 3 passes. His best game coming vs Jax State where he went for over 150 yards.

He will move up to the #2 QB spot next year, but its looking like he could still be the starting #2 WR if he can keep up this production. He isn't as polished as other WR's and is blocking is a issue. We could see him line up at a bunch of positions next year QB, WR and wildcat QB. Napier hasn't used the wildcat plays this year like previous seasons. However, this year KSU is desperate for playmakers and he is that. Despite only playing a few games this makes him #2 in most receiving stats since outside of that 1 game he hasn't dropped passes.

Editor's Note - Odd his WR stats doesn't show up on team stats or boxscores, but does under player profile

KSU Hot At End Of Year Winning 3 of 4

Kennesaw needed to win 2 of its last 3 to become bowl eligible and did that finishing 6 and 6 in the regular season. This would get them in the Idaho Potato Bowl where that was also a win. This gave Billy 7 wins so surpassing the goal from the AD and overall a solid season for a 1* school.

The 1st of those games was a blowout win 37 to 22 vs Jax state which saw them score 15 of those points in the 4th. The offense had its best game of the year with 509 yards with over 200 passing and rushing. This was the breakout game for QB turned WR Fayad with over 150 receiving. It was +2 in the turnover battle with Sua Mix getting 10 tackles, 3 TFL and 1 int.

The next game was one to just forget losing to the 7-3 James Madison 45 to 21. Their offense couldn't be stopped 542 yards of offense allowing 153 and 2 TD to their star HB. It was emotions that got the best of the team after some early turnovers ending with 3 Interceptions for our QB Lyles. Napier said it was a teaching lesson when things don't go your way early. The run game couldn't get going with the lead and HB Childers was held in check. Going just 1 of 7 on 3rd down and 0 for 4 on 4th down isn't how this offense is built and shows we really need that power back.

A big win to close out over Louisiana gets us into a bowl game with a 28 to 20 win. We talked about finding a FB a few games into the year well unfortunately he got hurt shortly after that and wouldn't return to this game. We aren't sure why David Ogbogu (77 OVR) was so much better than the true freshman as he is classic blocker. This offense needs that FB and it appears to be completely different with him. He had 10 carries for 58 yards and a TD. This was vintage powerbone offense as we rack up 326 yards of offense and just 86 passing. A big day by the front 7 with 5 sacks lead by 2 from Alex Moe (80 ovr)

Things exploded in the bowl game and the most points we have ever put up 62 points. This was 476 yards of offense and the defense creating a season high 5 turnovers. A big day for the QB Lyles 145 passing yards, 71%, 39 rushing yards and 4 total TD's. The FB Ogbogu another big game 58 yards. They played a 3 man front and you can't do that vs our offense. A good day for Tyrone Lewis as well our #1 WR with 59 yards and 1 TD. The player of the game was our junior CB Tyler Babers (84 ovr) who had 3 of those turnovers.

True Freshman HB Childers Emerges as #1 Guy

During the previous recap one player we avoided talking about on purpose as we wanted a bigger story and its true freshman HB Ed Childers. The starting HB for most of the year was Troy Mixon and then he got hurt a few games back. That pushed Childers into the #1 role and he shined and is now the favorite to be the #1 HB next year.

His first game as the starter was Jax State and he had 22 carries for 113 yards. James Madison was the ugly loss till be managed 86 yards of total offense. The last 2 games with the threat of a FB he and the offense went to a new level. He had 142 yards on just 18 carries and a TD so nearly 8 yards per carry. He would also add 3 catches for 29 yards. The bowl game again with a threat at FB he averaged 11.8 per carry. He had 13 carries, 154 yards and 2 TD. With the late surge he ends up leading the team with 667 rushing yards and 6.1 per carry while adding 3 TD.

Ed is a true freshman and was already committed to the team before Napier joined. The 3* recruit isn't someone with major upside still it will be his job to lose going into next year. He does have some improvement to go and with this staff specializing in HB's we do project him to max out maybe as soon as next year. While he is a elusive HB he isn't really a burner with 91 speed, 91 acceleration, 85 agility and 86 change of direction. Since those speed ratings are maxed out many are thinking he is a product of the system and the highly rated OL.

                                Season Recap

                                QB
It wasn't the 2 system QB we thought and the star upside Lyles took most of the snaps. It was a mixed season for him overall more negative. He was only +1 in TD to Int ratio and just 52% passing. However, the 1,700 yards isn't too bad in the offseason and the weapons around here were really thin. He did lead the team with 9 rushing TD's so if you add that in its 22 TD and 12 Int and it's much better. Fayad also started at WR down the stretch and played well.

                                HB
It was always going to be a struggle without a power back on the roster and just 2 FB's. We finally found a FB Ogbogu and then he got hurt and that really hurt the offense. True freshman Ed Childers shined down the stretch after senior Mixon went down with a season ending injury. The 175 pound Bollinger did his best at power HB

                                WR / TE
Lewis had the best season ever for a WR in this offense with nearly 500 yards and 8 TD. Bad news he has no upside, but good news he is just a sophomore. Drops were a major problem and really hurt that's why the QB started at WR the last few games

                                OL
The strength of the team but gave up more sacks than we would like. It will look different next year as nearly all of them are graduating.

                                DL
The strength of the defense and the 4 man front and easily the spot with the most depth. This unit will be good for years to come with Moe, Witherspoon and Kpassgnon leading the way

                                LB
The first award winner we have had as Junior Sua Mix had a monster year. He was all over the field and hopefully comes back next year. The raw speedy (88) true freshman Brisker produced as well and will be dangerous in the years to come. Thankfully they stayed healthy as very little depth at this position.

                                DB
Another position without much depth the interception # are likely a fluke so don't expect that next year. If the 2 starting CB's return for senior year this defense could be one of the best in the conference.
