TRADE CENTRE - 2027 NHL TRADE DEADLINE
        March 1, 2027

        TradeDeadline_PHI.png
        TradeDeadline_NHL.png

        DeBrincat joins Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers have made their first splash of the NHL Trade Deadline by acquiring Alex DeBrincat from the Detroit Red Wings.

The Flyers also receive forward prospect Max Plante. In return, the Red Wings receive forward Noah Cates and Philadelphia's first-round pick in 2028.

DeBrincat, 29, scored 30 goals and 58 points in 57 games with the Red Wings this season. Plante, 21, scored 24 goals and 59 points in 52 games with the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL.

Cates, 28, had 12 goals and 22 points in 60 games with the Flyers.

"DeBrincat is a guy that can come in and fill our top-six forward group, and can provide us with some secondary scoring," said Flyers General Manager Nolan Reid.

Crosby from Yellow and Black to Orange and Black
In a trade that shocked the hockey world, the Pittsburgh Penguins traded Sidney Crosby to their biggest and state-rival Philadelphia Flyers for defensive prospect Hunter McDonald and a second-round pick in 2028.

Crosby, 39, scored 25 goals and 55 points in 61 games with the Penguins this season. McDonald, 24, scored five goals and 28 points with Reading Royals of the ECHL.

Flyers General Mananger Nolan Reid said the Penguins approached him with the trade proposal.

"They told me I had five minutes to make a decision. I couldn't believe what they were offering. This is a once in a life-time opportunity to acquire a player of Crosby's caliber. Even Wayne Gretzky got traded."

Flyers nab goaltender Hofer from Kraken
The Philadelphia Flyers acquired goaltender Joel Hofer from the Seattle Krakren during the NHL Trade Deadline today.

In return, the Flyers send goaltender Samuel Ersson, Ethan Samson, Matthew Gard, Jesper Kotajarvi and a third-round pick in 2028 to the Kraken.

Hofer, 26, posted a 10-13-2 (won-lost-overtime) record with a 2.92 goals-against-average and a 0.903 save percentage with four shutouts with the Kraken this season.

Ersson, 27, posted a 9-6-1 record with a 2.83 goals-against-average and a 0.912 save percentage with the Flyers this season. Samson, 23-year old defenceman, had two goals and five points with Lehigh Valley of the AHL. Gard, 19, is currently playing with Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League where he as 26 goals and 69 points in 51 games. Gard was drafted 57th overall by the Flyers in 2025. Kotajarvi, 19, has three goals and 35 points with KooKoo of Liiga in Finland. He was Philadelphia's 79th overall pick in 2025.

"Adding Hofer gives us a very good one-two punch in net," said Flyers GM Nolan Reid. "Having two good goalies will help each other get better."

                    Post-game quotes:
Flyers Captain Sean Couturier on the loss: "It's definitely a tough loss to start the series. We were playing pretty well coming into the playoffs and tonight we were off our game. We made some mental mistakes that cost us. We just have regroup and refocus and get ready for the next game."

Flyers Head Coach Rick Tocchet on the Flyers' energy: "There was none in the tank from what I saw. In our own building, and we looked like we were playing our fifth game in seven days on the road. No excuses."

Rangers forward and first-star Will Cuylle on the Rangers win: "It's always huge when you can come in to someone else's building and get a playoff win on the road. We kept it simple and limited their chances. They were getting frustrated and we took advantage of that. We just have to keep this up next game."

Tocchet has confirmed that Joel Hofer will get the start for Game 2.

                      Series tied 1-1.

                      Game2NYR.png

                      Post-game quotes:
Flyers forward Trevor Zegras on the win: "It's a huge win. We tie the series and we played a hell of a lot better than we did in the first game. We did let a three-goal lead slip away, but overall I think we played a well-rounded game."

Zegras on the overtime winning goal: "Durzi broke up a play at center ice and then that got us going the other way. He got the puck to Owen (Tippett) and I saw him going on and at the point it was a two-on-one so I just had my stick on the ice waiting for a pass and he throw me a pass and I just put a little tap on it and it went in."

Flyers Head Coach Rick Tocchet on the win: "A much better effort out there tonight. Game 1 was a kick in the *** that we needed to get fired up for this one. We came out swinging in the first but then sat back almost too much in the second but we regrouped in the third. It came down to who made the least mistakes and we were fortunate enough to be that team."

Tocchet on switching to Hofer for Game 2: "It was obviously no insult to Pytor (Kochetkov) at all, but it was more of a 'let's try something" type of approach and it worked. He's the hot hand right now, so as of now he will be our starter for Game 3."

                        Post-game quotes:
Flyers forward Alex DeBrincat on the win: "Big win for sure. We wanted to take away their home-ice advantage and we did just that. We played well all game, despite the last couple minutes there, but we once we got a lead we played to protect and stayed disciplined."

Flyers defenceman Sean Durzi on the the 2-1 series lead: "It's great to take our first lead in the series, but there's plenty of hockey left to play. We know they are going to come out faster and harder next game so we just have to be prepared."

Durzi on his goal that stood as the game winner: "We had them hemmed in their own end and they were starting to play on their heels. Their forward tried to get the puck out of the zone but Sanheim made a great play to keep it in (the zone) and took a couple of steps to get by their guys and saw me waiting for the one-timer. I just let everything go on it hoping it would at least hit the net. I think it hit someone's skate on the way in. I'll take it."

Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad on the Rangers loss: "It's tough to loss your first one at home after we played so well on the road. We just didn't get the breaks when we needed them and a few mistakes cost us on the scoreboard. All we do now is put this behind us and focus for next game."

Flyers goaltender Joel Hofer on the 34-save shutout: "It feels great. I felt good all game and the guys in front of me made it a lot easier for me...they let me see the puck, blocked shots when needed and played great defensively. This is a hard building to play in as a goalie."

Hofer on taking a 3-1 lead in the series: "It gives us a boost for Game 5 in our own rink. We still have lots of hockey to play."

Flyers forward Owen Tippett on the win: "It's a huge win and it puts us closer to the next round. We've been getting better since the first game of the series and tonight all of our tools came together. We played well defensively, we stayed disciplined and we took advantage of scoring opportunities. A great road game for sure."

Rangers forward J.T. Miller on the loss: "It's a tough one to loss, especially being shutout at home. It just seems like since Game 2, we have been having trouble scoring and we need to find away to snap out of that. Credit the Flyers tonight, they played well and were hungrier for the win than we were."

Miller on Game 5: "It's a travel day tomorrow, but then we will be hitting the ice for practice. We just have to come together as a group and be ready to go. We have to limit out mistakes and make the most of their mistakes."

                            Round 1, Game 5: Rangers 5 @ Flyers 6 (OT2)
                            Flyers win series 4-1.

                            Post-game quotes:
Flyers forward Alex DeBrincat on the series win: "It feels great to move on. One step closer to the ultimate prize. We played good playoff hockey all series and to get this one in overtime and send the fans home happy is a great feeling."

DeBrincat on the overtime winner: "Zegras was behind the net and I was able to squeak by their defenceman and get open in front of the net. Zegras gave me a great pass from behind the net and I just got my stick on it and shot it five-hole. It was great to finally end the game and not let it go any longer."

Flyers forward Trevor Zegras on the win: "Feels awesome, especially at home to close out the series. It was a wild game. We had a three-goal lead in the second period that we let slip away, but we didn't let that get to us. We just had to focus on eventually getting the next goal and that's what we did."

Rangers forward Will Cuylle on the loss: "You never want your season to end so it's tough right now. We battled back after being down by three and still played well enough to win. When it goes to overtime, it's anyone's game and unfortunately we couldn't find the back of the net."
