The game billed as an important one for playoff implications between two huge rivals even in January was a dud. The Wolfpack got up early 3-0 in the 1st and never looked back. The real test for Hartford was two days later when Springfield came to visit. Both had identical records of 20-15-6 prior to the contest.

In a tightly fought contest the turning point came with 1:38 left on the clock. Springfield, on the penalty kill, made a bad line change and Brendan Mikkelson and Patrick Cosgrove took advantage connecting on a long pass and Cosgrove went in and score on a backhand.

Despite being shorthanded for the minute and a half, Hartford managed to dominate play, and was rewarded when Vladimir Denisov playing up during a line change took pass in the slot and buried it. Hartford now has a pretty significant run of games. They are 8-1 in their last 9 games. Hopefull they can keep this run up and keep getting secondary scoring. Then we might get some playoff hockey.

“I can’t believe you remembered,” Emily gushed looking at the small trinket Pat held in his hand.

He hadn’t actually remembered, until Brodie had asked the night before in the locker room after losing to Portland. This had been the first time they had been able to go out since it had been their one-month “anniversary”.

Heading back to her place had become a common occurrence and the trinket Pat had bought was paid for by the bonus he had gotten after reaching 50 points.

Even though it was a Tuesday in Hartford, the restaurant had been fairly crowded. Luckily Pat still had yet to be recognized by the public. He had declined almost every opportunity to increase his income through endorsements and thus far it had come as a surprise to Emily.

“I used to think that all athletes were all about the money. But you’re different. You’re grounded and real.”

“I’m also 19 too. It’s nice that you don’t judge me for being just a little baby.”

“I think I might find it weirder if I taught high school or college. But luckily for you I deal with 24 little 5 year-olds a day. Coming home to a big one isn’t so bad, because at least I get to hug him.”

“And you don’t have to deal with this one’s parents everyday.” Pat said chuckling at thought of himself in a baby outfit.

“Yeah about that sweetie. When do I get to meet them?” Emily asked. She had been putting pressure on him for them to meet and thus far he had parried every advance. His parents had been busy, visiting his sister, and helping with her move to Boston.

But now they were free and clear to come visit. Since Pat wouldn’t be play in Binghamton or Syracuse, which were both closer, his parents wanted to come to a home game. Despite how great the relationship was going he was worried what his parents would think of him dating someone older than his sister. It was for this reason that he wouldn’t let them come, but it was becoming increasingly more difficult.

“Maybe in February, for the All-Star Game,” Pat said hoping the change of subject would help.

“But the game is Monday, how are they going to get here on time? Plus you’re playing silly.”

Pat hadn’t really thought about that part. He had been on an incredible run so far and was leading the league is scoring, but at no point had he thought about playing in next week’s All-Star Game.

“Well if they come, and you go, then you’ll meet them.”
