I'm a data scientist by trade, and I've put together a system of rating players based on available advanced metrics, and have a pretty realistic set than can be used for reference.

So far, I have all QBs, RBs, WRs, and TEs that have played a snap completed. The model takes into account initial recruiting rankings, performance weighted for SOS, with weighting by year and snap count. This dates back to 2013.

Ok, cool. If you still want to chat about OVR’s, let me know. This will handle every single player on any roster you find, while also providing easy updates as the season goes on without being hyper-reactionary. Just a thought.

As for 40-times, do you remember the work I did last year using draft scout as a resource? I think those times were a better representative of speed than the HS times and tracked the estimates in the combine to verify. I’d really strongly recommend using them rather than ESPN HS times. You’ll also see more spread between your good teams and smaller schools.

Hi! Not sure what the formula is to produce recruit/freshman ratings but I came up with this set of rules that might be helpful to give a target rating for certain players based on their recruiting ranking (which correlates closely with what you might see in a simulated recruiting class in dynasty mode).

Using 247's composite rating system, i've come up with a scaling system that correlates the typical rating range in a simulated recruiting class (the highest rating i've ever seen for a simulated player is an 84 and top 100 players generally hover around 73) with their corresponding 247 sports composite rating.

So basically, 84 is a consensus top rated player. Happens pretty rarely (the 2021 class wouldn't have a 84 rated player. Trevor Lawrence would be the last player to fit in the 84 range). Generally the top rated players would be an 83 (Top 3) with a range of 83-72 for the top 100 players. I would say players normally range off these target ratings either +3 or -3 unless they are a bust/gem. I imagine you guys already have a great system in place but I figured I would share this in case it helps inform ratings for freshman going forward! Cheers!
