I'm almost in the same boat... After only 4 or 5 games in exhibition though. I can hang with the computer... sometimes but I've yet to beat them on all-pro. Just to test out M. Vick I used the Falcs. (although i'm a big 'skins fan) against the Pack at Lambeau. I lost in the final minute as they marched down the field on me in hurry up offense and scored a td. 17-10 final.
Anyway, I not a sliders kinda guy although I may become one if the Charlie Garner keeps shedding tackles like Earl Campbell! (I need to be charged, methinks.)
My advice is to, if you're not doing so already, make sure you pay attention to the package the offense puts in and gameplan accordingly. If you suspect a run to the strong side shift your linemen and backers toward that side and play the weak side yourself-- for insurance. Make sure you have enough DB's for their WR's.
But now I'm gonna have to try it tonight if I can, but it seems that the "charge" is really needed on offense AND defense. Try charging up on every play and just runnin' into the ball carrier.
If you're brave, run a zone defense and take control of one of the LB's. Have him floating around pre-snap. The CPU seems to love to go to the reciever that's lined up on his side. So I kinda "bait" them into thinking no one is covering him and then step in the path of the ball and defend it. Works great against some human opponents. But it's risky.
As for your offensive (pardon the pun, lol) passing, try letting the CPU handle your QB drop and when he's finished and bounces, let it fly!
The tutorial book is nice in explaining a lot of this. Plus you'll get some end tables for your crib. lol.
