For PacMan (Original Post)
It is not just you. It does not work with me either. I use the Chicago Bears Playbook with BOTH my Bears Franchise and my Broncos Franchise. In it, there are some plays which indicate your defender will play man coverage. (A line showing his running pattern with a line crossed at the top like a 'T'.) I did an experiment and had my best cover guy on my opponents best receiver, and then tacked on a double team with another one of my higher ranked players. Not only did my best guy not cover who he was supposed to from play to play, but there was no indication of a double team on screen.
I think this was a good idea that Sega had. The problem is, they did not execute it very well. Maybe in NFL2k5 this year, we will get treated to a working double-team feature.
Oh, by the way. Man-coverage only double-teams should not be the restricting factor when utilizing this feature. If the gamer selects double-team, then the two designated players you selected should be lining up against and covering your selected opponent on EVERY play, regardless of coverage. That is the trade-off. If you double their best player, you are leaving one other player of theirs free to possibly make a big play in the open. But you can be comfortable with the fact that you just reduced their star player's chances of catching a pass. Notice I said REDUCE and not ELIMINATE. The reality is that talented (I'm serious, he is one of the best but he still disgusts me.) receivers like Randy Moss are not easily shaken by two backs covering him. Same thing should occur in NFL2k5.
