I can see people objecting to guaranteed contracts when it comes to the NBA or MLB (Vernon Wells, anyone?), but the NFL? Considering the danger involved, the short average career length, and NFL owners drowning in profit, I don't begrudge football players their money one bit.

I don't like them in any sport, but yes, if they had to be in any, football would probably be the best place to have them. They do have guaranteed money though, so eh.Comment

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news about that, haha.
Sadly, the chances of that being real was about as likely Habs fans NOT rioting after a playoff game."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: Potential Issues with the CBA
From a player agent (source Puck Daddy):
This isn't the first time I've heard this."If the owners promised to pay the players the dollar value of the contracts they've signed them to and let the player's share of HRR shrink over time, the players would very likely sign up Wednesday afternoon. If the players were willing to let their share of HRR diminish to 50 per cent or so sooner rather than later, the owners might go for it, but the players are still trying to win battles they lost seven years ago."
To me, as a fan, it seems simple. Guarantee the contracts, reduce the cut to 50% over the next 5 years and get back on the ice.
And allow the PA to discuss where teams should be located or expanded to.Comment

Re: Potential Issues with the CBA
Okay, back to 1987 Canada Cup talk.
Soviet penalty. Time for Canada to send out the 1st unit PP.
Wayne Gretzky (2857 regular season points, 1st all-time)
Mario Lemieux (1723 points, 7th all-time)
Mark Messier (1857 points, 2nd all-time)
Ray Bourque (1579 points, 11th all-time, 1st among D)
Paul Coffey (1531 points, 13th all-time, 2nd among D)
Total regular season NHL points: 9531.
Not bad.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: Potential Issues with the CBA
Random CC asides:
- Coffey played much better than Bourque in both Games 1 & 2
- Did Messier play a single shift where he didn't punch/elbow/butt-end/high stick a Russian in the face?
- First period of Game 2 was perhaps the most 80s period ever
- Amazing how Krutov's skills diminished so sharply in 2 years; he was a (cream-filled) shell of himself on the Canucks in 89/90Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: Potential Issues with the CBA
Shows how much ESPN cares about hockey SMH.
Anywho watching the coverage today I have a BAAAAD feeling about this. The players are more than willing to sit out another full season if they have to.
The scary thing about all this though is that both sides are so far apart they're not even speaking the same language and can't/won't negotiate off of any of the proposals that have been submitted.
This could get very ugly. I wonder what TSN and SNET will do to fill the time now. After all poker isn't on nearly as much as it used to be.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
