I know I’m late to the party, but was very busy on the NHL side of these boards, lol !
For people that know me around these parts, know that I love my games to be true to life as much as possible. I always look to find the best gameplay, tweaks, adjustments to make a Simulation experience, especially in Sports game.
Now that the golf bug has just bit me hard, Two days ago, I downloaded the Trial for EA PGA Tour:
1st. Impressions after about 8 hours in:
Setup: I have put everything on the highest difficulty right of the bat. I even handicapped myself to the point of even removing the Green grid at one point…
Impressions: Game was too easy. Hitting every fairway and all. Imagine this, it was my couple of first games 😳 I played 4 rounds of the Amateur 1st tourney and ended at -5 after 4 and finished in 3rd place… My golfer being a 67 and having not played before, doesn’t bode well if I want a real Challenge…
Positives:
- I liked the overall quality of the game. The career mode seems good and the graphics are pretty nice !
Negatives:
- The player creation tools ! Are we back in the early 2000's ? I couldn’t make a player that looked 50% like myself. That was a major turn off right of the bat. That and the numerous close ups on the said player during the round. Cringy…
- Will not go too deep into this cause It would take me all day, but the CAMERAS are awful to say the least… The only one that is actually playable is the Follow one, the rest are abysmal…
- Like I said before, the game is too easy for someone looking for realism. EA catered to the people that want a -10 round to be the norm… Again…
- Would have liked to continue my career, but the 3 points mentioned above are a major turn off for me, so I won’t put down the cash to buy the full version.
PGA 2K23
This morning saw it was on sale at my Best Buy, the rest is history 😉
1st. Impressions after about 2 hours in:
Setup: I have put everything on the highest difficulty right of the bat. You know the drill…. Having played 2K21 before, I was in known grounds. Took Bubba Watson (because I’m a Lefty IRL) to play a 18 holes at LONE GROVE GOLF COURSE (a very nice GC by the way) and shot a 95 !!!
Impressions: WOW ! What a game ! Even though I shot a 95, I had a smile on my face the whole time. The game plays even better than what I remember from 2K21. The Gameplay has been fine tuned I guess, but the way it plays is unbelievable IMO. The greens were ULTRA FAST and the ball roll was very impressive. It looked true to life. After 9 holes, I have modified the Swing Difficulty from Legend to PRO and it looked to be a better fit for me at the moment 😀 Will surely return to LEGEND when I get better at the game…
My take here is not to bash EA at all, cause they have something great and they just need to fine tuned stuff. So all in all, we, as virtual golfers, have a great competition here and this is all great for the sport and gaming in general !
Will come back later after more hours to EDIT this thread, but so far I’m not seeing lots of negatives that are gonna distract me from playing tons of 2K23…
