That would hold water for me if Waltrip didn't perform so well on superspeedways too. I doubt they'd cut him much slack. He's been an average driver his whole career, but now he's consistently up front at plate races. I know you didn't say you thought it was a fix, but you just gave the people without as much knowledge more fuel lol.

I highly doubt Nascar would turn a blind eye to plates on both the "good" DEI cars each plate race.

      Terry:

No question, on both DEI cars. DEI has worked harder on aero stuff and manifolds than the other teams, plain and simple.

But I still am suspicious about NASCAR turning a blind eye toward Junior's car at the 2001 Pepsi 400. Dominant, easy win, first race at Daytona after Daddy's death, car featured big sponsorship from Major League Baseball All-Star Game, first race on the NBC part of the network deal.

Very, very fishy. I wouldn't have thought twice until Bestwick said Junior called in on the radio that it was so easy to stay out front, even when he wasn't mashing the throttle to the floor.

NASCAR's not past engineering a feel-good story. Don't forget Richard Petty's victory in the 1984 Firecracker 400 at Daytona. It was the King's 200th victory, on the Fourth of July, with President Reagan in attendance. Petty was using an engine that was at least 20 cubes too large -- that's a fact that even King Richard admitted to in the following years. NASCAR knew it and let it go in post-race inspection because of the King's 200th-July 4-Reagan in the crowd scenario.

You know the old adage in racing: It's only cheating if you're caught ... or if the sanctioning body actually decides to enforce the rules.

I can't even begin to dispute that "strange" race. I think there are definitely instances of strangeness...take our first race with the Infiniti Pro Series last year for Rev 1. Foyt Jr. was running nitro in his air filter, he was using a full IRL air intake, and the officials literally came over to us and said "we owe you one". They just didn't want a huge stink about controversy in the first race, so everybody pretty much let it go.

That's what originally turned me off...for some naive reason, I expected big-dollar racing to be better enforced. It was just Saturday night dirt racing, with bigger wallets. But for people to say that all the plate races are "fixed", is just absurd.

I dont think he is the best, but he's up there. I think DEI's set ups are just superior to everyone else. Although RCR and Hendrick seem to be closing the gap. See Mickey past and see him now in a DEI car. He raced over 400 races before ever getting his first Cup win. And 3 cup wins later they are all at the same track, a plate race. Thats not the driver, its combination of setup and equipment. Not saying Mickey is a bad driver, because he really has gotten better.
