If you've ever wondered why safety rating is a thing, just watch the first lap of this week 13 race and you'll wonder no more.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
The Xfinity challenge is tempting me. Charlotte tonight, Iowa on Saturday, and Gateway on Sunday. All I need is a car. Not sure if I want to go ahead and go for the A and hope for some clean races (which sounds rare in week 13), or hold off and until later this year and go for the auto-promotion to A.
Although it seems the Xfinity Challenge doesn't seem to count towards MPR, so maybe I will wait. I can just test the Cup car.Last edited by Redacted01; 09-08-2015, 08:16 PM.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
You've got a B license now right? If you don't want to buy another car, just get your SR up above 4.0 and run the Class A races or time trials. I believe they count towards your MPR.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Looks like the update is taking longer than it was supposed to, as usual, haha. Not that it really matters much to me since I can't race until tonight, anyways.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
It wouldn't be week 13 without multiple iRacing build delays.
I'm sure this has been suggest on the iRacing forums before, but it would be nice if they had something that would auto-download the new build. Always sucks to come home and have to download all that data before being able to do anything.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Way early, but this seems like a good start for the NSM.
Tyler Hudson, who is a NPAS champ and probably a top 5 oval driver on iRacing posted this:
I lost 1.5 seconds in 15 laps in Xfinity at Charlotte... Track started out with so much grip and it went to crap.. Ran the top for awhile it came in when first started to lose grip and then NO where on the track had any grip.. had to slow wayyy down.
For those who think it'll still be 1 line, you're wrong.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
That sounds amazing yet terrifying at the same time. I just remember back to Michigan how much I had to slow down, but again, maybe doing setups would counter some of that. Now throw in changing track grip and my slowing down could become a crawl. Kinda glad I haven't bought that setup software yet. Seems like dynamic tracks could make that a bit less useful if it isn't accounting for the state of the track.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
in regards to the corvette dp sounds. currently they are using the riley sounds.

We actually have some updates for the sounds for this car that we will be pushing out in the next week or so. Just missed the cut to make it into this build.

Well I'd consider getting the update, except for the whole blank white page when I try to sign in or the bad gateway errors.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Here's some information on the NSM from iRacing staff member Dan Garrison. He's the one who actually worked on the NSM. Posting it here because things tend to get lost over there.
Hopefully this explains it: if you had carried over the track state from practice to qualifying, whatever marbles were left at the end of practice would have been there at the start of qualifying. The "carry over" setting is intended to simulate one session following right after another in our make-believe race weekend world. If you select "clean marbles between sessions" then the crew spends a handful of minutes sweeping marbles off the racetrack; otherwise marbles aren't cleaned off.
If you wanted to simulate some running on the track by a support series between practice and qualifying, you could have bumped the usage up to 85% for the start of Q.
However, you went from 75% usage prior to practice, to 25% usage for qualifying. What does this simulate? Something happened to clean off the track between practice and qualifying, like a rainstorm. In this case qualifying does not follow right after practice in the make-believe race weekend world. Perhaps you practiced on Friday, then it rained some overnight, and Saturday morning some running was done by a support series or two before your scheduled qualifying time. The amount of running you requested was only 25%, so there isn't going to be a whole lot of track rubber and very few marbles; this is because a fair part of the running by the support guys was on a totally green track, and marbles generally come after some track rubber exists.Luiz, you are my new best friend. What you describe is in fact what I would expect!
Christopher H. pretty much nailed it, but let me explain to anyone who cares to read, as there are a couple of relationships going on that will hopefully help explain why something may not meet one's first expectations with regards to track rubber and marbles. First, track rubber...
TRACK RUBBER:
The rate at which the track will accept rubber from the tires is inversely related to the amount of rubber already there.
Say what? Simply put... a clean track will increase in rubber more quickly than a track that already has rubber. The rate at which rubber will be added tapers off and eventually reaches zero when the track is effectively saturated with usable rubber (at least it helps to think of it this way).
MARBLES:
The rate at which marbles are created is directly related to the amount of rubber on the track.
Meaning, a clean track is going to produce very, very few marbles, but if there is a lot of track rubber, marbles will be produced at a healthy rate.
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER (PLEASE!):
Think of your tire as losing rubber as it goes, much more so when it is working hard. On a green track that rubber will help rubber in the track; on a track already pretty full of rubber, most of it will go towards marble production instead. On a track with moderate usage, some goes towards rubbering in the track, some goes towards marbles, it all depends!
This is why if you play with usage percentages in testing, you'll see that going from 0% to 50% mostly puts down track rubber, but 50% to 100% might widen the groove more than it darkens the heavily-used parts, but the marbles (if left on track) really start showing up!
Whew! Hopefully that helps anyone silly enough to read through the whole explanation.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I got in and downloaded and decided to try Michigan in cup at 50% usage. Holy crap! The car just migrates towards the wall out of 2 and I can't hold on to it out of 4. Fixed setup of course. I think I'll start building it up, a few laps at 0, 20, 40, just to get a feel and to see what it does.
So I'm going to give the clouds an assist on this one, but with the stock Michigan setup, I obliterated my old best time. Just ran a 36.782 at Michigan! I was lucky to run low 39's before. Again, I'm sure the overcast sky helped, but no way it gave me 2.5 seconds so who knows what all factored in, but I like it.Last edited by Redacted01; 09-09-2015, 06:57 PM.Comment

EDIT: Also, the set likely changed with the new build so that will factor into things.
Just saw Neebs say he's doing 195 in the corners at Charlotte in the cup car without lifting. For reference, the lap record is 198 mph.
Guess it's time to start hoping iRacing just screwed something and they'll be fixing it shortly. Not going to be very much fun if we're running ridiculously fast everywhere.Last edited by Chaos81; 09-09-2015, 09:07 PM.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Top split NiS is fun to watch. 44 laps in and they're on their 6th or 7th caution already. Longest green flag run is 5 laps.
Edit: Two more cautions by lap 58.
EDIT: Lap 70, 9 cautions now. Only 130 more laps to go.
EDIT: Lap 73, 10 cautions. This is quite possibly the worst race I've ever seen, but I just can't look away.Last edited by Chaos81; 09-09-2015, 10:00 PM.Comment
