Re: Next Gen Max Prices (consoles & games) ...

I'm guessing the PS4 will be $399 with games either staying the same or getting a bump to $69 (leaning towards staying the same though.)

They couldn't give me an XBone if they wanted to. I'm guessing either the same $399 as PS4 or $499. Of course, if they offer a subsidized option that will be lower. Probably $199 then.

Last gen, when the 360 dropped it was ahead of gaming PCs (in terms of graphics cards and such) but the cards they are using this gen aren't what a high end gaming PC can do.

The card equivalents of what they use are $200-250 dollar cards and obviously they aren't paying full price for those (ATI gets a cut of the profits on both boxes) and PS4 has a stronger card.

Long story short: Sony learned their lesson last gen with their pricing, XBone/PS4 don't have as comparatively strong specs compared to PCs as the 360 did when it came out. Prices shouldn't be too high, and the rumors have the PS4 at $399.

Man there are no flashers... now what are we going to do for vd
I'm sure there's plenty of prostitutes you could pay if you really want vd.

Given the specs, their is no way the PS4 will be $399, more like $499.

Agreed. I'm expecting nothing less than 500 bucks unless there is some other catch. I don't see how what is being touted by Sony or MS will come in at less than 499/500.

The parts they are using aren't that expensive and they don't pay for them outright (amd gets a % of each box sold.)

It's not like they have to pay retail price and even so if they paid full retail price I would expect that it would cost somewhere around $600.

They aren't on the cutting edge like they were last gen and Sony knows the outrage from high prices. Even with a $399 price I'd bet their profit margin would still be there.

I will get into the new consoles when it hits my sweet spot of 350-400. Anything more and I can wait. Games are already too expensive for me. I buy at most two new games a year. The rest I just wait until the price drops or buy used.

I sincerely hope to be as that, but I am not so sure ... there are more to consoles pricing than the cost of its componnents.

While they (Sony) have acknoledged that price was a huge obstacle going back to current gen launch and that they are targeting a much lower price for this new gen, I just cant see that huge of a drop.

As a comparison, the WiiU sells around mid US$300s and by itself, the console doesnt provide a profit to Nintendo until 1 game is bought (it wasnt stated but I suspect, it has to be a 1st party game) ... now, while the architectures are different, when I consider the upgrade in hardware of the PS4 & Xbone, cant but think that a price closer to $500 is innevitable, specially when considering the software, branding and market target.

Anyways, given the still fragile state of economy and the allegedly new ways of moneticize games, I so hope for such lower prices you are expecting.

                  P.S:
There is also one thing that some have stated but that I cant see it. The Xbone being cheaper than the PS4, even if the PS4 has better specs. The diverse nature of an entertaiment console, opposed to that of a gaming one, should affect the pricing.

They need to take into account that the XBone also ships with a Kinect and that MS doesn't really ever cater to the consumer (in the console or PC industry.)

They do what they want and expect people to fall in line - see Windows 8. May be a bad reference now, since supposedly they are reworking it quite a bit - many are now calling W8 their "new coke" moment.

The reason people are saying XBone will be cheaper is that MS will likely subsidize it - so take a couple hundred dollars off the retail cost and make you subscribe to Live for 2 years then and there.

The move is built into the PS4 (it's the light sensor on the controller). No official word on the PSEye being bundled with it, but the Kinect has higher end parts than the PSEye.

The max I would pay is $499. I might go to $599, but that would mean waiting a while after it dropped. I am expecting $69 per game... any more and it's almost extortion.

It will be interesting to see how they fight each other this time around. Microsoft desperately needs people to use its entire platform with Windows 8 laying the big ole goose egg. They might try to come out swinging with the price.

I know the amounts stated here are just placeholders but WOW ...

... If this is indicative of the pricing we should expect on E3 later on then ... I will seriously consider buying a WiiU or sitting out this entire new gen cycle just because ... lol ... even if I have many incentives not do so:

                            - While currently unemployed, do have the money
                            - Am pissed with current gen, due to bad experiences with both PS & MS (RROD & other issues)
                            - Understand the system specs and the prospect they offer of better gaming experiences (leaving aside the apparent increased restrictions)
                            - And a hardcore gamer

... then again, what I am not, is a stupid mindless zombie that will buy whatever they offer at whatever the price. Thus, does anybody remembers what the placeholders were back when the current gen was about to be introduced ?

Anyways, E3 or whenever the pricing is announced cant come soon enough !

I love the current gen machines and have lots of games yet to play. No reason to dump a ton of money on something just because its the newest thing. There was a massive jump from the PS2 to the 3 I don't think we are going to see that much of a jump at least initially on the new consoles.

Since I need a new computer soon I just might get a gaming rig that I can update graphic cards on.

I agree, even tho I had such a bad experience and even when I think there is a chance for a huge jump, just not in graphics like last time, but on content.

With such processing & ram powers, the amount of content that could be added, should be exponentially increased ... AI enhancers, physics, real time lightning, foot planting, 3d detailed crowds, etc.

Then again, for prices remotely close to those placeholders, it isnt worth it.
