True but look at it this way.....look at RL...it was free on PS+ which is pretty much what made it huge to begin with. If it didn't have that spotlight on them for that entire month two years ago, the game may be already dead. But here's the point...it was and still is HUGE on PS4 and chances are, the majority playing it are on PS4 where as Xbox user base is smaller and Switch non-existent since the game isn't out yet. If you're Sony and think about it, why would you let the other two piggyback of the success the game has had because of you (meaning Sony)? If it wasn't for the DEAL that made RL exclusive for a year on PS4 and being free on PS+ for a month, the company may not even exist anymore.
If im Sony, whether gamers like it or not, I say screw that. I gave them the opportunity to shine on the largest install base, spotlighted their game and im going to let the other two inferior competitors piggyback off of me? Hell no.
As for Minecraft...the game is huge regardless of platform and this makes more sense but at the same time, it is a Microsoft IP on a Sony platform. The fact that the game even exists on PS4 is an accomplishment in of itself.
The end result is this - PS4 has over 60m consoles sold. Xbox One still reportedly has under 30m (which I don't believe is true, has to be closer to 35m by now) consoles sold and Switch just came out a few months ago. Sony isn't going to let either one of those two companies use them just to increase their own ecosystem. Let them earn it.
Sony has done some stupid crap this generation but Microsoft has done more than their fair share this generation and both did their fair share last generation. The difference is that since Bloodborne, Sony has been on a non-stop roll with exclusive games where as Microsoft keeps declining and im sick and tired of Spencer's bullcrap because that's exactly what it is. He's no different than Jim Ryan. Both will spit out bullcrap, hope people believe it and eat it up with a spoon while defending what their bosses do and try to act like they're your best friend when they're not.
Consumer wise, it's a bad decision but business wise, it's the smart decision and at the end of the day, all of these companies are businesses that will do what they believe is best for business regardless of whether we agree or not.
