Re: NBA Playoffs vs. NHL Playoffs

The NFL Draft is popular because it's kind of like Christmas. It's a one day thing (for the most well known names, which draws the huge crowds), instead of drawn out over 2 or so months (like playoffs).

If the NBA / NHL playoffs were just one game between the top team from each conference, then maybe it would have much more appeal to it (though of course lower revenues and stuff even with the hype surrounding one game).

I love the NFL Draft, but it doesn't have the intensity and sacrifice that makes sports so great in it. The playoffs is what each sport should be. Every possession, shot, goal, save, etc, means so much.
    NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
    NFL - Buffalo Bills
    MLB - Cincinnati Reds

I'm not a hockey fan so I obviously won't like it but the nba really needs to go back to the 5 game first round. The playoffs are already long, they don't need to make them even longer. I agree with whoever said the nfl draft. I'm much more excited for that than I am for the playoffs in either sport.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Nothing tops a NHL Playoff OT game. It can end in 30 secs, or it can end 4 hrs later. Every shot means so much. Nothing tops Mission 16W.

You must not be a fan of a team then.

                  NHL playoffs...

I'm a born again hockey fan. With that said, I still prefer the NBA, but nothing beats NHL hockey.

Basketball all the way. I will watch every game I can catch... Although if it's not a Piston game, and somehow the Tigers are on TV I will be gettin good use out of the remote.. I'm not really into hockey till the playoff's and I will only really watch my hometown Wings...

I say NBA Basketball(All games in General)... NFL Draft (First 2 Rounds)... Baseball (Only Tigers)... And the Wings.. Maybe if the Wings make a push I will get more into it, but for some reason Im not into hockey at all this year..

Oh yeah.. BTW Chuck Norris vs "The Dog" Bounty Hunter would be my #1 sporting event.

I won't watch much of either. The little bit I might watch would be the NHL playoffs. That's only if there is nothing else on, nothing else to do and I'm really bored.

I think the last time I watched an NBA game was when Jordan came back from his first retirement. That was when I was in high school so about 11-12 years ago. NBA basketball has 0 interest to me.

For me I like the NBA better as well as the NBA playoffs, but as long as the Rangers are in the playoffs i'll be watching the NHL playoffs more. Difference is if they weren't in i'd probably watch very little where i'd watch the NBA playoffs with or without the Knicks.

I agree with pretty much everything this guy wrote. The NHL does lose steam after the first two rounds while the NBA gains momentum.
And the star quality is also bang on. Part of the problem is not really the NHL's fault. In the NBA you see the starting 5 70% of the game while in the NHL most teams will roll all 4 lines evenly during even strength with only special teams seperating the total minutes. I don't know what the NHL could do to fix that other than reduce the amount of players you can dress or make the periods shorter. That's something that will never happen.

But the NHL has the greatest trophy presentation out of all the major sports. Nothing tops the Stanley Cup.

I'm a huge hockey slappy so obviously I'd rather watch the NHL playoffs. But one of the reasons I can't get into basketball is because it's a slow progress of accumulation of baskets. I only need to tune into the final 5 minutes. By that time the game's either a blowout (in which case I didn't waste 2 hours witnesseing a slow drubbing) or it's close enough that the last few minutes matter. But even then basketball games bore me because of all the timeouts. It totally kills the momentum.

But to each his own. I'm sure there are hundreds of NBA fans here that could tell me why basketball is greater than hockey.
