Thank god this movie didn't go down this sugested route! I didn't go see this movie to see Fried Green Tomatoes or the Sister hood of the traveling Batman Pants. Chick flick plot lines do not belong in this movie... Hold me Alfred, I'm lonley.. LOL

Well Spidey is just not the type of character for dark, brooding films. I mean none of his rogues are anywhere near as twisted and crazy as Batman's.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Who said he has to cry, have you ever been to an orphanage and seen kids who feel they have no one to turn to. They turn their loneliness into anger and it takes them into a different path, usually violent against others."The thing I missed was Bruce Wayne. What I wanted to see is why does Batman not kill his enemies. What holds him back. What keeps his moral compass from just going into a mad man killing people left and right.
Why do you think the Joker keeps saying he is just like him, because most likely they share the same path. Joker just happened to let his madness take over for his loneliness while Batman has not. Joker has no friends or allies. A lone maniac just like Batman.
Being lonely does not mean crying. Solitary confinement in a jail will turn you crazy unless you try to center yourself. I wanted to see why that hasn't crept into him.Comment

A lot of the ground-work for Bruce Wayne and his choices regarding The Batman have already been laid out in Batman Begins, so I don't think its necessary for TDK to run down the same path with the character.Who said he has to cry, have you ever been to an orphanage and seen kids who feel they have no one to turn to. I really don't think Bruce thinks he is a lone or lonely - I mean he has surrounded himself with good people on both side of the Batman mask with Lucius, Alfred, Gordon, and Rachel (RIP). If anything, this movie was all about Bruce Wayne. Perhaps Bruce Wayne didn't get as much screen time as in Batman Begins, but everything in the movie related back to Bruce Wayne and his struggle to live a normal life - which was the corner stone of the film - instead of trying to find ways to keep himself from being lonely. I thought Bale did a terrific job of switching in and out of the various Bruce Wayne personalities within the same scene and of displaying a sense of internal struggle/tension with his multiple masks. Plus, I personally feel that limiting Bruce Wayne's time on the screen only makes his need to live a normal life even more immediate and necessary than having Bruce Wayne lament this fact in a couple of extended or multiple scenes.
I can see Nolan and company going into Batman as an outcast/all alone in the next movie because the ending really sets that situation up really well, especially with the loss of Rachel and the burden takes upon himself.

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion **CONTAINS SPOILERS**
As was shown in the first Batman, Bruce Wayne is drivin by Justice. He wants to help the people, not scare them. Like he says "We cant kill, that is what seperates us from the them. Thats why it is so important".Comment

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion **CONTAINS SPOILERS**
I would rather see Johnny Depp play The Question before I would see him as a Batman villian. I think Alex Brody or even the very underated Jeff Goldbloom play the next villian. I believe these two can carry the part as intelligent riddlers without being over the top, especially Goldbloom. I thought they would have used Goldbloom for the part as the Scarecrow but had used Cylian Murphy at the last minute for the role.I could see Johnny Depp being a very good riddler. I'd try to take the approach that DC comics has taken with the character (granted I haven't read an issue in over a year) of having the Riddler seeming to be like a very eccentric private detective and being legit. I'd then have Riddler working the underground crime scene and causing havoc that way. In many ways it'd be the opposite of the BW/BM dynamic.
I think that'd be something that Nolan would do.Comment

Isn't he a tad old though? I do agree he could play a Riddler in the vein that I mapped out though.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: The Dark Knight Discussion **CONTAINS SPOILERS**
Johnny Depp would be so miscast in the 3rd movie that's it pointless to discuss who he would play because if Nolan had half a brain he won't do it. Depp's celebrity is too large that he would overshadow any movie like this because people would want to go see it because Depp's in it and figure he'll just play a darker version of Capt Jack (or whatever the hell his name is in Pirates) He's got a baby face and has never played a character close to being menacing. He's much better suited to play a villain in Tim Burton's Batman movies. Something quirky that just for laughs, just like Depp did on Pirates and the Mexican western with Banderas.
Isn't that what killed the previous Batman franchise. They started making movies using famous actors hamming it up as the villains (Mr Arnie Freeze and Jim "rubber face" Carrey). Nolan will never resort to that and the next villain will either be a serious actor like Daniel Day Lewis(I wish but DDL wouldn't do it) or someone like a Ledger who can act but doesn't have a huge celebrity persona that will overshadow the movie.
Someone I think would make a great Riddler who has the acting chops to do it that I haven't seen mentioned and fits the criteria: Sam Rockwell.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 08-03-2008, 09:35 AM.Comment
