Seriously Ant Man is a d-leaguer. Sure he has had some somewhat interesting stories but he is far from an interesting character in my opinion. There are better character to choose from before you dig in the bottom of the barrel for Ant Man. Ant Man...surely you can put Deadpool in a movie before you do this guy. Even Dr. Strange or (bleh) Iron Fist would be better. You'd have to do a lot of magic to convince me that Ant Man could hold his own ongoing, much less a feature film.
I would kill for a Deadpool movie.

I have absolutely no interest in Ant-Man, though, and I doubt many people outside of the true die-hards will. I would, truthfully, barely expect that movie to pull much of a profit based on the budget I am sure it will cost to work with all of the CGI and effects and stuff.

I hope they reconsider making an Ant-Man film, I agree with your thinking that it would flop big time.

The tone and pacing of this movie felt almost like a James Bond film where you get to see James Bond being suave and cool when he's not dodging bullets and bringing down bad guys.

I had my doubts when RDJ was announced for this role, but he really pulled it off with flying colors. It was also amazing how many scenes he carried that only involved himself and a robot here and there. Almost like a Tom Hanks in Castaway vibe where there are all these scenes with just one actor in them.

Great stuff. And I'm absolutely giddy at the prospect of all these other Marvel movies, crossovers, etc. This is a good time to be a superhero geek.
Yeah, I was skeptical about RDJ pulling off Tony Stark, but I'll glad to admit that I was wrong.

Great movie and maybe as good as Superman The Movie (favorite) I thought for once they improved upon the original concept, while also remaining faithful to his true origins. The cast was excellent and the story was good, and very entertaining. The armor works so much better than any other superhero costume. I almost hope they do not make a sequel because I can not see them improving on this one.

As far as Daredevil is concerned, Ben Affleck was fine as DD, almost everyone else was badly miscast. The worst being Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios. WTF????

Anyway here would be my top 10 superhero flicks.
      Superman The Movie
      Spider-Man 2
      Iron Man
      Spider-Man
      The Incredibles
      X-Men 2
      Batman Begins
      Hellboy
Batman (Hell you could call it Joker)
      Unbreakable

I loved Iron man as a kid, never really care about Tony Stark, as I got older I stopped caring about Iron man as well. This movie made both Iron Man and Tony Stark, much more interesting then they are/were in the comics. Iron Man definitely works really well on the big screen.

I'm one of the few who does, but I agree with you about Affleck as DD. IMO it was parts of the script that let the movie down, but I actually liked it a lot, but hey I'm one of the few folks who liked the first Hulk movie too.

I never read any Iron Man comics (never really read comics that much anyway) and didn't know the story, but they did a great job of presenting it to someone who knew nothing about it.
It was interesting and jarring to see Jeff Bridges play a character who is 180 degrees different from The Dude. I hadn't been tracking this movie, so his presence was a total surprise to me. As you say, he did a great job.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I liked it too. Ang Lee did a good job with the style and the CGI looked much better than the new one.

Yeah, I agree. The 'new' hulk doesn't look as real/good as it did in Ang Lee's version IMO.

There is no confirmation and it's still being held up but Deadpool has been discussed.

Latest rumor is that Ryan Reynolds was vying for the role with David S. Goyer writing. However, Goyer has since moved on to The Flash (though that was dropped for some reason), the treatment for Thor, and directing Magneto.

Reynolds, however, has no reason to be disappointed. He is playing Deadpool in the upcoming Wolverine movie.

As for Dr. Strange, Guillermo Del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy, The Hobbit) has signed as the director with Neil Gaman (DC Comics The Sandman) writing.

Iron Fist was set to release back in 2004 but hit a lot of problems. Marvel has since decided to put it on hold.

These movies are happening. Even if they are B-List superheroes someone out there is a fan of them and they will want to write the film version of the comics. Everyone likes action and superheroes. It doesn't have to be A-List to make money. It may not make $100 million in the Box Office but it'll pull in something.

              Re: Iron Man is.....

The only reason they're making an Ant-Man movie is because he was one of the original members of the Avengers.

But I think they can make a good Ant-Man movie that people will want to see, especially since it's scheduled as one of the last "Marvel Universe" movies out of the chute before an Avengers movie is made, so they'll undoubtedly have appearances by Tony Stark, The Hulk, and possibly Thor as well in the Ant-Man movie. You need to look at the big picture here - it's not an Ant-Man movie for the sake of an Ant-Man movie, it's an Ant-Man movie for the sake of expanding the Marvel Universe towards making an Avengers movie.

As the Iron Man movie proved, you don't have to be an A-list superhero to succeed at the box office if your story is told well. I mean, even the Hellboy and Blade movies have done well and nobody but the staunchest comic geeks knew who the hell they were prior to their theatrical release....

So they're making a multi-million dollar movie just so they can have a character in another movie... that most likely will never get used again...

                Makes sense.

Eh, Iron Man is hardly unknown, and they got easily one of the best casts for a superhero movie ever. But Ant Man?

They'd probably be better off just not including him.

I wouldn't be so quick to write Ant-Man off. I also think he's not that great a character, but they seem pretty hot on making a movie w/him so I guess they have a great concept in mind. He did build Ultron, and him in the storyline could introduce the Vision at some point - who could be a really cool movie character (as part of the Avengers).

Sometimes comic characters actually turn out better after getting the Hollywood treatment; for example I really like them making Jarvis an artificial intelligence in Iron Man. It's completely out of text from the comics but it works well in the movie
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Just saw the movie, i must say i walked away impressed. It was definitely on the level of Spiderman 1 if not better and much better than the first X-Men. His beginning was done very well. I never read the Iron Man comics, but grew up watching it on t.v along with Spiderman and the rest of the marvel characters.

It's going to tie-in. Fury makes sure to mention the Avenger initiation.

I saw this today and all of you were right. This movie is great. Extremely well-written and well-acted.

I actually didn't have a problem with Howard. I've seen him play more aggressive roles so I'm going to assume that his character was supposed to be soft and passive. It'll make sense once we see Rhodes become War Machine and likely elevate his energy and passion.

Yeah, that was a good idea. When they do the Avengers mansion, an automated Jarvis running the household is going to work alot better than having an 'Alfred' ripoff. Great choice.

I agree wholeheartedly with those that say Ant-man sucks, lol...but he's been a major character in the Marvel Universe for a long time. Think of how cool the CGI would be as Ant Man, and better yet, as Giant man. A-M would also be a conduit for introducing the Wasp to the scene, who is definitely an Avengers mainstay, and best of all, Pym is an A-hole. Like Downey brought Stark to life, whoever plays Pym could really bring an interesting cat to life. You'll need that against-the-grain character in a big group flick I think. Not all strong jawlines and heroic manliness. A guy in it for the money and fun...

I can't wait to see Norton, RDJ and the others all interacting!

I hear what you're saying man, but uh uh, I just can't get up for Ant-Man. Seriously, ever since I was little, he was always that "wtf" character to me. How many times can the world or city be saved by a man whose power is to shrink to the size of an ant? I am all for Hank Pym showing up in a movie, but not his own. I mean, there's pretty much nothing that is going to me excited pay 8-10 dollars to watch this guy. He doesn't even have the proportionate strength of an ant, just that of a normal man but ant sized (well I guess that's proportionate but still lame cuz when he gets back to normal size he's still just as a strong as an average dude :P). Oh yeah, he uses a helmet that lets him talk to ants...pfft.

Oh, and then he gets bigger and get's increased strength, but he's still nowhere close to a match for Hulk or Thing, and Banner's probably on par with him in terms of intellect. So why have someone who offers similar things to other heroes but not as well? If you wanna introduce Ultron and the Wasp, just do it in the Avengers movie, or put Hank in a few cameos in the other movies, but don't give him his own. Also, Hank Pym can't be compared to Iron Man in terms of being a superhero. Iron Man is a main eventer, Hank Pym is a side character. It's not nearly as much of a stretch to make a good Iron Man adaptation as it would be Abt-Man. Besides, Hank Pym hasn't been immortalized yet by having his name ripped off by a Wu Tang Clan member.

Yeah, I agree witcha' though...Ant-man is a WTF choice for his own full movie. We'll see how it turns out. Maybe we'll get lucky and get a bunch of cameos.
