Does anybody know how to get a "subsite" like images.google.com?

Ok this is a very dumb question, but without dumb questions, there wouldnt be intelligent answers right?

Anyways, I'm the "web designer" for the school I work for. And I would like to setup a different domain (I guess you can call it that) for the teachers. Basically I would like for them to type an address such as teachers.mysite.com and it would come up to their very own section. Just like how it is with images.google.com.

But the only thing is, I dont know how to do this. Do I have to purchase a seperate domain in order for me to do this? Sorry for the confusing question, hopefully I asked it correctly.

Or do I just make up a seperate html file such as teachers.mysite.com?

I'm thinking that since I already purchased the domain "mysite.com", I should be able to add a seperate domain in the front of that address. I think I'm only confusing myself!
