Favorite Sports Books?
OK, I'm pretty sure this goes in the E&T section of OS, because I didn't know exactly where else to put it.. Anyways, I was trying to make a Christmas List and I would really like a book or two.. Thing is, I'm not sure which ones to put down. I recently read Phil Jackson's book, and I thought it was really good. I'm a big fan of basketball, but wouldn't mind reading about baseball or football. Anything thats a good read would be a good recommendation. Thanks in advance!Tags: None -

I just bought this and his earlier book, Money ball. Also get Bill Simmons "Now I can Die in Peace" if you like his writing and/or like the Red Sox.I havn't read it, but Michael Lewis's new book is supposed to be excellent. It's Called "The Blind Side"

Re: Favorite Sports Books?
These are old books hence harder to find
- Any of Ron Luciano's books (he was an umpire who wrote some very funny memoirs of his time in the Big Leagues)
- MONDAY NIGHT MAYHEM by Marc Gunther and Bill Carter (it's currently being sold on ebay so hurry up!) This is the definitive work on the Cossell era of MNF. It's also the source material for the excellent TV movie from a few years ago.
- FIRST DOWN AND A BILLION: THE FUNNY BUSINESS OF PRO FOOTBALL by Gene Klein and Bill Carter This book was written by the long time owner of the San Diego Chargers and it's damn funny. One of the funniest sports books i've read.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Favorite Sports Books?
"Friday Night Lights," H.G. Bissinger (high school football)
"Fever Pitch," Nick Hornby (the passion of English soccer fans, which translates to hardcore fans of any sport)
"The Game," Ken Dryden (hockey)
Take care,
