Buying a Mac in a different country

OK, so my aunt in New Jersey wanted to buy me an iMac for my Christmas. Problem is that I live in Ontario.

Why a problem? Because Im not sure if she buys the Mac protection, or whatever its called, Im not sure I can bring it to an Apple store in Canada since it'll be a US-registered insurance. Also, Im goign to Australia in January for a year, so would it work there?

Anyone have any idea to this?

Also, my brother bought a Macbook Pro and it's amazing--except that it's 3000 more expensive than the desktop.

I was just wondering that since macs have no towers, couldn't I technically just carry that computer in a laptop bag if I ever needed to bring it to a friend's house or something? Makes sense to me, but since I dont own one, Im not sure. Maybe the stand will get in my way? i dont know.
