I like Roth a little more than Hagar.

Hagar was the vocalist on Right Now, which is by far my favorite Van Halen song.

I'd say that song has a lot to do with my opinion, too.

I'm surprised to see Roth out so far ahead of Hagar considering the sales records.

Vocally trained/overall touring experience and as far as talent with a guitar in his hands-It would be difficult to pick Roth over Hagar(even if you don't like Sam's selection of songs or style). I didn't cast a vote-I like all phases of the Halen dynasty and respect them for what they are(were). I even liked Gary's stuff that he did with them. I've seen VanHalen with Hagar and the earlier VH with Roth-I think Roth is more entertaining and has a way of working the crowd that Sam couldn't.

Re: Van Halen or Van Hagar

Hagar turned Van Halen into a p*ssy rock band, with too many ballads and softer tunes. Van Halen was a pure, balls-out, kick-azz rock band with Diamond Dave up front.

There aren't too many rock bands that cranked out three consecutive albums from the gate like "VH I," "VH II" and "Women and Children First." VH never approached that brilliance with Sammy up front.

              Take care,

Very true-it had a pre-cursor of a new phase of VH-Jump-that was the first jump to another kind of Halen.

I vote for David Lee Roth. Sammy is/was a good vocalist, but as pk said, I much preferred the kind of music VH made with DLR.

Music wise, I'll go with DLR era.

Writing music, I'll go with Sammy.

David had to resort to some classics like You Really Got Me, Ice Cream Man, and Pretty Woman.

I don't recall Sammy rewriting or digging up the classics.

1984 was a great record. Hot for Teacher, Panama, and Drop Dead Legs are all rockers.

I wont vote because I liked them both. However I think I heard somewhere that Van Halen was more successful in the Hagar era.
