    Re: Anime/Manga Discussion Thread

We have arrived at the Fall season of Anime starting. Just curious as to what you guys are currently watching/planning on watching for this season.

    As for me?

    Fall Shows
Log Horizon (season 2) - Obviously my big one. I think Log Horizon is my favorite Anime in recent memory, and even the switch to Studio DEEN for animation can't temper my excitement too much. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

selector spread WIXOSS - The first season (selector infected WIXOSS) I watched on a whim, and was completely surprised. I had no idea what to expect, but here was an anime with a bright, cheery opening... filled with teenaged girls as the cast for the most part... and it was filled with soul-crushing suffering and twists. Came out of nowhere for me. I liked the first one, and I want some answers. Already have the first episode of this season (from earlier today) watched. Looking forward to more.

Kiseijuu - I really have no idea what to expect out of this, but it is Madhouse and the premise seems somewhat interesting so I'm gonna give it a shot.

Psycho-Pass and Psycho-Pass 2 - I haven't watched the first season at all, so I gotta get caught up on that. No idea what it's about, no idea how good it is... but it's something I wanna give a shot.

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works - Again, not one I've watched... but Mel watched a bunch of the Fate/ stuff and enjoyed it. I'm sure I'll catch some episodes here and there.

With not planning on following too many Fall shows (LH2 and ssWIXOSS being the main ones I want to check out) I definitely need to do some catching up.

    Backlogged Stuff
Haikyu!! - I'm about halfway through this. Very enjoyable so far. Nothing crazy, just a solid sports anime.

Baby Steps - I fell behind while it was airing, maybe 1/3 of the way through. Another solid sports anime that I thoroughly enjoyed... from what I've seen of it at least. Gotta finish this one up.

Rail Wars! - I haven't watched too much of this. It feels weird to me, because I feel like it has a lot of things I don't like (some fan service moments that... just don't need to be there) and a somewhat odd feel in general to me, but from what I've seen I haven't been able to stop watching. Gotta finish this, even if it's just to broaden my horizons. Definitely not a big name show, or one that I can wholeheartedly recommend to anyone... but surprisingly enjoyable for me.

Re:_Hamatora - Forgot all about this. I watched Hamatora and found it a good way to pass the time. I'll watch this just for the sake of wrapping up storylines, even if some of the changes from the first couple episodes felt a bit weird to me.

Fall looks pretty good. Although streaming is starting to become like PC gaming in that different services(Steam, Origin, Uplay vs CR, Funi, Hulu/others) are required to watch all shows. Even the newest Gundam series is locked away on some random service. They wonder why a lot of people still check out fansubs.

Sorry for the double post, but man there are a bunch of solid shows this season. Parasyte and Fate/Stay Night(UBW) are my two favorite at the moment. Parasyte has great characterization and is from the author of Historie, a great historically set manga. Fate on the other hand has insane production values from ufotable animating. It has the same production values that Garden of Sinners did and those were movies. Denki-gai is also a great comedy this season.

Gonna check out Parasyte but want to hold off on FSN/UBW until I finish at least the FSN visual novel. Keep getting a lot of different information as to what to watch first so I figured I'd just start there.

Wow, really good episode of Fate this week. Amazing
            Spoiler
. I usually hold back and wait for half a season or a show to finish before binge watching, but Fate is too good.

Yeah from what I heard fate/sn is much better than the previous anime version they had.

I got fate/zero on hold right now.

I haven't watched much of any of the Fate shows yet, but the fiancee loves them all so far.

I've seen some of them in passing and all I can say is that the production values seem amazing.

Looks like Brynhildr's landing on Anime Network's site. Seems like a reason for me to use that subscription again. Was it still as good later on in the show?

Log Horizon's there too - kind of disappointed UBW isn't.

Decided to check out Trinity Seven and Fruit of Grisaia from this season as well. Trinity Seven has good comedy mixed in with magic and fanservice. Grisaia has a Bakemonogatari feel because they share a character designer. It has a non cookie cutter MC with a nice sense of something dark lurking under the surface. Both shows have different and fun dialogue.

Man, that last Naruto chapter was like a bad fanfic.

Added two new series to my watch list. I'm up to 7 now for this season . Big fan of "The lie you told in April" at the moment, I put it right up there with Fate this season. About a concert pianist and violinist with great music and animation. Thankfully most air weekly except for " Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei(The Irregular at Magic High School), which has finished airing already. The show has good animation by Madhouse and a surprisingly serious tone to it.

So, looking at the netflix version of Anime, trying to get into the genre...seems like Samurai Champloo or Sword Art Online are the early leaders. I've heard good things about Yu-Gui-OH! from my fiancee...I don't know which to choose.

Any suggestions? I've seen parts of Fullmetal Alchemist BTW, so I don't really want to dive back into that.

If you get back into FMA then I highly suggest rewatching but the FMA Brotherhood ones. So much better than original.

As for SAO, I liked it but the second half of season 1 did get a bit wierd. There's also SAO 2 that was pretty good but I haven't finished it yet.

Also a great beginner anime IMO is TTGL know as Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
