There's no different feeling between the characters and it kind of gets old in a short timeframe.

I do want to do my tiny part to support more releases like this, though, so even if it's not a great game I did enjoy the roster and stuff like that.

      Re: Anime/Manga Discussion Thread

So Dragonball came back on air with Super Dragonball after 19 years or so and I have to say, WTF. I'm such a big DBZ fan, DBZ paved the way for anime to me and got me into anime in general. When I heard it was coming back I got so excited, but so far it's been 3 EPs and its basically a retelling of that crappy movie against Beerus. For one, I find that character to be so uninspired.

Dbz has always been outrageous with power levels and such, but Beerus is on a different level which makes him so uninteresting. I'm so shocked that instead of this being original, it's a legitimate retelling of the movie which only came out two years ago.

I'm sticking with it because its DBZ and my love for it is unmatched, but its boring as heck. Yet I just finished the Kai retelling with Buu and that still holds up so well, so its not that I've outgrown it, but my goodness, couldn't they have started with a more charming villain. I know DBZ is the pinnacle of Shonen, but it wouldn't hurt for them to invest a little more time In the series story.

Anyhoo, just needed to rant a bit because I'm so upset that after 19 years, the first saga we get is a retelling of a crappy movie that came out two years ago

In all honesty the Original DBZ wasnt very good either, it just has a crap ton of nostalgia that people cant forget about it. It was my first true anime I watched as well so it will always be there for me. I however know and admit that after watching other anime its not even near as great as its made out to be.

I am also watching the new Super Series and it still feels like Dragon Ball to me. It more of a fun watch for me to take me back.

Also for some info regarding Super, the first part of the anime will be the movies basically. Order going: Pre Battle of Gods, Battle of Gods, Pre Revival of F, Revival of F, Then New Content

In other news another solid episode of Gate. I really am loving this series.

I agree, it was never am amazing heavy store driven anime, but it pioneered the way for Shonen and stuff like Hunter X hunter, Naruto etc etc and the original still holds up very well.

Now I had no clue about Super just being a retelling of the movies, WTF, I might actually stop Watching it now

After the movie stuff there will be new content. The may even throw in some new things between battle of God's and revival of F so there's new content there as well. I say it be 20-30 or so episodes for them to get past the movies. I mean this next episode is basically the start of Battle of God's already.

Still a classic. I wish a lot of those older OVAs got the blu ray treatment. Things like Ah My Goddess, Video Girl Ai, etc.

I watched DBZ episodes here and there, but never to full series like so many others. I've been considering giving it a try, but in reality it doesn't appear to be all the great.

                      What's Charlotte about?

Also has anyone here of the fan made Manga Dragon Ball - Multiverse?

I must say that it's very impressive and that's from someone who while I enjoyed DBZ, I knew it wasn't the best.

It's basically about a tournament that's set in a different universe with participants from different universes timelines. Like what if scenarios, (What if Goku didn't hit his head and forget his mission as a child, What if Buu had beat everyone, etc)

It's up too 1072 chapters as of right now. I suggest it to everyone and the art is pretty great also.

Why do people still view Dragon Ball Z as one of the best action anime of all time. I'm not saying it bad but that it just not better than Hunter X Hunter, Tokyo Ghoul, or the Yu Yu Hakusho when it comes to fight. All the mainstream anime like One Piece, Bleach, SAO, Fairy Tail and Naruto are better(despite having a lot of fillers). The whole premise of Dragon Ball Z story is lost for me after the Cell arc. I guess people can't let go of nostalgia even if it not that good.

Just finished Gangsta and it was amazing. Was expecting to focus a lot on gangs but it didn't and I enjoyed it. Kinda sad that it only 12 episodes this season. Can't wait for season 2 of it.

What are some other good summer anime? Wanna finish up some of these before I get into the fall anime.

I don't think many consider it one of the greatest of all time. If they do, it's because nostalgia and that they grew up with it/it was an introduction to anime for most of them.

Don't get me wrong. I love DB/DBZ/DBGT (yes, I even like GT) and it holds a special place in my heart. It's one of my favorites of all time, but objectively I can say there are so many better action animes even if they will never be a favorite of mine like DBZ is.

I didn't watch too many of the summer anime this year. I watched some of Working!!! and Shokugeki no Soma, though I guess the latter for sure would be a spring anime that just ran through summer.

It was an introduction for me into the anime/manga world also, just I found a lot of great anime that I like way more, and they made me realized how bad DBZ is at times. The fights are good but that is to be expected. Guess I need to not take it so serious as I do with other animes.

Heard the original DB is good but haven't seen it. Have a friend watching now and he says it good. What are your thoughts on Dragon Ball?

I love Shokugeki no Soma. Like I said before here, it reminds me of a sports anime with the competition, and the characters are great. Gonna give Working!!! a try sometime this week.

Dragon Ball is much more of am adventure anime than DBZ. A lot less action in a sense, but DB > DBZ looking at it today.

Working is slice of life, so if you aren't into those you can stay away. I'm also not super far into it but when I'm laying in bed before I fall asleep I really enjoy watching slice of life/comedy stuff to unwind.

I really wasn't a huge DBZ fan, I did dive head first into Gundam though. I caught Wing on Toonami when it first aired and immediately went looking for other series or to find out more about the universe. Are there better Gundam series than Wing? Big time.

I would still gladly buy the Blu Ray release of the show if they would ever release it in the US. I'm with ubernoob in that certain shows still hold a place with me, even if there are better examples of the series or genre around.
