Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
Just finished Inception, I hate to say it but i saw the ending coming about 30 mins into the movie. I was hoping to be wrong as hell cause i hate endings like that.
On the movie itself, awesome freaking movie. The concept and execution were freaking flawless. The acting was superb and it did help to have an awesome cast of actors.
One thing i picked up on which put a smile on my face was Leo's wife in the movie. She played Edith Piaf in the movie "La Vie en Rose." The song they used to kick themselves was a song by Edith Piaf who was acclaimed to be the "Voice of France." Pretty cool of Nolan to put her in the movie along with that song.
Now here are some spoilers and questionsSpoilerWTF, his safety device never stopped spinning at the end of the movie. Are we to believe he is still in a dream?
Now the question comes into play, when did this dream start? Was it from the very beginning? Was the whole experience a dream. but now, how far in a dream can you go? They were in consecutive dreams, more than 3 or so....for him to be in one the entire time means he was in a dream of a dream of a dream....so on and so forth.......WTF

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
SpoilerWe never saw it stop, no, but the scene was cut mid-wobble, which was meant to leave it up to the individual viewer to decide whether or not it would have fallen had we been granted another second or two of viewing.
The movie is slated to come out on DVD/BluRay December 7th, by the way. Instant purchase.Comment

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
Finally got around to seeing this movie. Great flick, one of the best, if not the best all year.
Ironically, I think it's a better linear action, heist film than it is a mindbender. The dream levels and theories support the action and the plot than the other way around. I would imagine that most people cared if Cobbs plan was going to work and whether he would see his children than whatever twist that was coming with the dreams.
Because of this, I would've liked to see the supporting characters fleshed out alot more....especially the dynamic between Cobbs and Arthur. They really missed the boat in developing that tension (I thought Nolan was going to go there but missed out). There were many other cases in which Nolan should've went the extra mile to develop some of the relationships a little better.
As far as the ending/theories:
SpoilerToo much evidence either way to determine if it was reality or Cobbs dream. Nolan pretty much just gave viewers enough to support each theory. At the end, it's up for the viewer to determine. I know that's not what people like to hear, but it's basically what he did.Last edited by Rocky; 11-13-2010, 03:26 PM.-Rocky Balboa"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
Nolan comments on a few theories derived from Inception:
Now for my input on something:
SpoilerI've been saying for months, to anyone (including my friends, my dad, other forums...) that has been saying "open for interpretation" that that is simply untrue. Nolan is too different, too talented of a writer/director to have crafted this movie for so long and simply just leave it up to us without having an actual answer. Sure we can interpret, but if you veer one way or the other, somebody is definitely wrong.
I still heir to the potential of the answer being of paradoxical proportions, which is different from no answer and an interpretive answer. But make no mistake, he has a conclusion about the movie's ending... even if he won't tell or show it to us. We might not ever even be able to derive it with substantive evidence, he may have removed enough for us to be sure... but there is an answer, and IMO that's not only what's most important, but that's what makes the movie much better. If there wasn't really an answer, this movie would have gone a whole point down in my book.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
First of all most of the questions asked were ridiculous. People were really thinking half of those things? Did they watch the same movie I watched?
Anyway, as for Nolan's response to the ending which is obviously the hot topic of this film, I doubt he ever gives an answer because I do think his intention is for it to be ambiguous. Maybe he does have an answer. Actually, I'm sure he does. But his answer is his own interpretation and being the writer/director that he is, I would bet that Nolan doesn't want the audience to tailor their thoughts and opinions on the film toward his own."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I couldn't believe some of them either, especially the one where he comments that's not how he would read into the film.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
Lol that's what i thought as well.
this bit here had me thinking Nolan was probably thinking "god who let this freak through security"
Spoiler“Or Maybe It’s a Meditation on Architecture” Argument: The top itself is constructed—topologically, it’s a pseudosphere, every point curving away.
Nolan’s Comment: “The prop guys just made a top that would spin for a long time.”
He basically gave away nothing in that interview and the dude has the heading Nolan (somwhat) explains inception which isn't true at all imo.Comment

Alternate, unused poster:

I've always found that some of the best movie posters are the one-sheet designs that never make it to the multiplex. You see, the posters which get released theatrically and online are the chosen few out of a batch of sometimes a dozen, sometimes a couple dozen, design concepts commissioned by the studio. These design…Comment
