Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Watched Beverly Hills Cop III for the first time in a while...
I'm a huge fan of the series, with II being my favorite. III is, just not very good. They went with too much comedy, and while the main villain is an *******, it comes off as hokey. Although the bit where he brings out the gun/CD player/microwave oven thing always gets me.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Mighty ****ing Ducks: I know Sand Lot is probably the quintessential children's sport movie, but personally I hold Mighty Ducks above most sport movies and certainly above a lot of Disney films. Between Mighty Ducks (1 and 2 and to a hell of a lot lesser extent 3) and Dirt Bike Kid I pretty much covered my sport's bases with sports I would never have the opportunity to even play on the street. Anyway, I had not seen Mighty Ducks since I was in grade school and maybe not even since I was a pre-teen. I have to admit it holds up very well. Its not glossed over like movies of today. You can tell these kids are poor as **** and all come from slightly broken homes. I like how its apparent, but there's no real side-story to throw it in your face. The charm in the movie is over-flowing and while it gets hokie at times (Bombay and Charlie) there's enough raw edge to keep things from over-flowing into after-school special territory. Its fun to watch movies you haven't seen in a while and pick up on things you missed when you were younger. I never really paid much attention to how big of a dick Coach Riley was, though, the "winning above all else" was a clear moral lesson to me as a child. Or how much of a wingman Charlie was with getting his mom laid by Coach. It really surprised me at how well it has held up over the years.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I was surprised when I saw that Netflix has The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly and Fistfull of Dollars up. I haven't seen either in a while, still great movies. I can't seem to get into Westerns that often, only a few like
- The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
- Fistfull of Dollars
- Tombstone
- Open Range
etc.
I want to go back and watch Yojimbo now, especially after Fistfull of Dollars.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Just finished binge-watching the HBO series The Pacific on Blu Ray. Been wanting to see it forever since I was such a fan of Band Of Brothers and the Pacific theater of war in WWII is so often ignored compared to the European campaign.
I had heard that The Pacific really suffered in comparison with BoB, but I found it to be incredibly well done and gripping, and if not quite on par with BoB, then darn close to it. What those marines had to endure against both the Japanese military and the hellish conditions they faced on each island simply boggles the mind. It's no wonder so many of them had trouble moving on afterwards. And I am really glad the last episode spend the entire hour on the aftermath of the war for each of the major characters. It helped the series come full circle.
Really glad I watched this and that I own it on Blu Ray. Got it for a song on Amazon just a while back.NCAA: Michigan Wolverines

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I thought that The Pacific was more traumatic and 'hard'. The island fighting was so much uglier than the European campaign, and unlike the Germans the Japanese frequently fought to the death. Rules of war didn't seem to apply at all in the Pacific.
I still prefer BoB between the two, but the Pacific was still pretty good.GO 'HAWKS!

Beyond the Pines, liked the movie, wasn't great, but the cops kid in chapter 3 seemed out of place.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Yeah the 3rd film was pretty bad. I agree with you the 2nd one was the best as I thought that mixed the comedy and action pretty well. The first film was a little too gritty IMO. It's the same problem I have with 48 HRS as well to be honest.
Sadly, they're trying to develop a Beverly Hills Cop 4 "sigh". Last I heard about 4 was that he wanted to do a TV series instead. Who knows...
Will take a look. When looking at Japanese movies, I tend to gravitate more towards the Yakuza side of things.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Watched "The Eagles" documentary movie.... Very interesting.
I also have a new found respect for Joe Walsh.
Check this out if you can. (The Eagles helped me make it through the 80's with all of the craptastic music that was.)Comment
