We just watched "Train to Busan" Won't go into detail, but this is a very good movie. Very well done and up their with some of the better movies in its genre

It's a Korean flick, so you need to read subtitles.

    Highly recommended..

.......... I thought it was for an Uncharted film!
My high school sweetheart (my first love) was on that plane. Incredible story. We still are in touch to this day. Just an incredible job of flying done by that crew.

We (my family) went and saw The Magnificent Seven. We loved it. I am a huge fan of the original. They did a great job on this one in making it a much quicker paced film. The original is a slow burn. This was a balls to the wall action western. Seeing great westerns on the big screen is a must for me. Denzel was his usual awesome self. And his supporting cast was also excellent.

A fun popcorn Western. Lot's of gun play, and the showdown in the last act is one of the epic western gun fights you will ever see.

        Alice Through the Looking Glass

Very entertaining movie, liked the origins of the characters. Don't know why it was rated low.

          Zootopia

Beautiful picture, lovely animation and showy message about social and racial prejudices that brought the movie up, but I didn't love enough about the characters or the main plot once it took hold. I could have also done without the prolonged sloth scene or the easily overused Godfather reference (though I did like how it jumped on some of its own movies).

Great humor in general, though. I laughed quite often. But unlike that of Wreck-It Ralph, Tangled, and Big Hero 6, I ain't buying it nor am I ready to watch it again any time soon. Certainly ain't a bad film; Frozen is a bad film, haha. I think they tried really hard and hit well at some points and not so well on others, that's all.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

              True Story (minor spoilers)

The only thing I knew going into this film was there was a protagonist in Jonah Hill and an antagonist in James Franco, and there involved scenes where they sat and talked to each other in somewhat of an interrogation room. I guess that was enough for me to say: "Hey, I like when buddies go for this kind of role and offer what they can."

What I didn't know was that this was based off a true story (yes, I know the name of the title but I thought it was for reasons within the film itself, which it is), and that really does end up capping what you can expect out of what actually unfolds on screen. I'm not saying it's impossible for a film like this to therefore not have any twists, but there are outlandish-like things that happen only in fiction, otherwise I probably would have heard about it. I'm mentioning this because I don't want you to be disappointed in the film's linearity when anticipating something different.

Keeping that in mind, a lot of this film reminded me of The Gift. The difference is I had no idea what direction this was supposed to go or what intentions certain characters had. I felt like this film kept me in the dark many times without meaning to. There were also moments where I felt tensed up, but I didn't really know whether I was supposed to be. It could have went so many directions at so many times, and while many people might appreciate this unpredictability, I don't really think that was the aim by the director (which is his first film, by the way) and I think it hindered from the overall impact of the film.

Sometimes just seeing two comedic-like actors in serious roles can be enough for you to say that they acted something well, or what have you. Given these two actors have so much off-screen chemistry with one-another, you'd hope for more on-screen. You can create some for yourself, but if you didn't know who they were I don't think there would be anything to captivate you. Do they sit down in a room together and talk with one another? Yes. Many times, in fact. That first time should really pull you in. I was intrigued, but I think I created that for myself. Given the dialogue and the performances themselves though, I don't really feel their pull, but more so my own push. The entire film was this way, too. It felt very cold. Nary a smile would crack from any character or viewing audience member.

I was hoping for this tale to be fiction (but simply inspired by a true story) just because I think if you put it in the hands of a certain writer, things could have gotten very psychologically creative. That's what I think The Gift did that this didn't. The payoff wasn't grand enough for this story to be told into a film, in my personal opinion. I would have enjoyed watching the live court case, but I don't see films based off O.J. Simplson, Scott Peterson, Casey Anthony, Gary Condit, etc. either. The only impact this really had was the writer involved in the case, which was a good hook but still left me underwhelmed. Oh, the places it could go when being able to embellish more on a true story's events...

                        Fantastic Four (2015)

Can't say it's the worst superhero movie I've ever seen like many seem to be coining it, but it falls way short of good by completely missing a second act. The first act is fine, the last act is sort of like every superhero movie I've seen (and I'm not a fan of the massive escalation stuff, but I get why they have to do it). Though as I said, a second act is totally void. There's a part where they go "one year later" though, and I feel like they could have done a lot within that "year," even if it was just another half hour worth of material.

It deserved that much, and it deserves a sequel so we can see where they planned to go with it. Sadly, I don't know if it will give itself a green light. The original F4 films weren't much better, but at least they had proper story arcs. I just don't know what you should be able to do with these guys that they haven't done on screen yet; frankly, they just aren't the greatest superhero combo out there. Also much like Suicide Squad, they saved the world from what was created as a result of their existence. In a nutshell, I'm surprised this film got made in the first place (especially with no Marvel universe connection whatsoever), but it did and it must be for a reason. Let them go more, for better or worse.

I think this is just a matter of "You know what you're getting into" when seeing that they come out with any F4 films. Frankly, I just don't think they are an exciting or creative bunch outside of their origin story. Anything you have them do, you can have the X-Men do, and they have a more compelling story with their civil war. I think they should just stick with that. Honestly, if they were creative enough, they would have merged these two in the same universe and make the F4 crew be the origin for all mutants.

By the way, I was going to say that Kate Mara doesn't seem to age, but I can't believe she was only 24 years old when she appeared in Shooter.

Went to see this last night with the wife. Let me preface this by saying that we went to a wedding reception before going to see this. I may have had a few to many (and I'm a super light weight lol). So I may have fallen asleep during the last 40 min (it was a late showing. Don't judge haha). Anyways the part I saw was very good and entertaining. The wife said the end was really good to. I would recommend it for sure. Affleck is just a solid actor.
