Once Upon A Time In America is a cult classic. Sergio Leone's mafia opus.

      The Working Man
Typical Jason Statham movie. Fun and entertaining

      Death of a Unicorn
Wouldn't classify it as great but it was fun. Part absurd part...well just absurd. I liked it.

        Capone (Prime)

.. there are simply no words in our language to describe this movie.

I can't believe Tom Hardy even signed on.

          Drop

Fun and engaging, though got a little silly at the end. It's what I expect from Christopher Landon, and that's not a bad thing. If you like the style that Happy Death Day gave, this is in that ballpark.

Interesting shot choices, and I'm glad they went with a lesser-known cast to not get in the way of the plot development.

Little bit of mystery, but mostly just something that you can go along for the ride with the audience on.

              A Minecraft Movie

I haven't played the game before, so my knowledge of its lore is very surface level. Needless to say, I might not feel gratified from the ins and outs of what were Easter eggs, but I acknowledge that most everything was, and gratified those who knew. The good thing is if it did, nothing felt forced and everything was in service to the story. This is what put it above The Super Mario Bros. Movie for me.

I also enjoyed that my audience enjoyed themselves. I could laugh at a few things that were adult-level, kids could laugh at "fart jokes," and we could all have a good time watching Jack Black do his thing. I felt it to be a little long in parts, but I think there was always something to keep the pace flowing at the same time.

This movie is ehh in terms of quality, but I kind of also enjoyed myself too. Don't know if I'll rush out to a sequel unless I dive a bit into the Minecraft lore. For example, I don't think these were just movie characters, but rather they are characters in the actual game that I'd like to discover more about their film adaptation. Then I'll happily check out a potential sequel (which will absolutely happen).

              Freaky Tales

I haven't seen too many films yet this year, but so far this is my favorite. I love movies that have intertwining stories with multiple vantage points and seeing how they all connect, or how things aren't as they initially appear. This movie also won me over more with so many of its Oakland connections (me being a Bay Area native) and having some surprise big name talent and cameos appear in the cast out of the blue.

From the jump, the movie knew how to hit heavy content with enough light visual flair to not weigh people down too much. It also made the last chapter digestible when they wanted to sensationalize things more. I haven't yet researched it, but if the bones of this story are actually true then that is an interesting hour I can use looking into it, and it's definitely a story worth telling as artistically as they did. Obviously you will take where they stretch reality and they make it clear when that happens, but that's what a movie should do when its main purpose is to entertain.

These movies do have a bit of a problem when it comes to shifting narrative focus for the audience, and I don't know how good rewatches will be for it, but for a single viewing I very much enjoyed myself. I think these filmmakers have a long way to go in perfecting their craft, but sign me up if they have more stories to tell regardless.

Yeah, I know it's pure 80's cheese. Yeah, I know the acting and accent from Christopher Lambert is questionable. But damn is it a guilty pleasure movie for me, especially as a fan of action schlock. Clancy Brown is great, Queen's music is great and it still has some of my favorite transitions movie wise.

Christopher Lambert (American-born Frenchman): portrays a Scot
Sean Connery (Scotsman): portrays an Egyptian pretending to be a Spaniard

                      Only in the 80s.

Several years ago, I stayed in Inverness in the Scottish highlands. Took a tour to Eilean Donan Castle ("Castle MacLeod") one day and watched Highlander in my B&B that night. Good times.

Just daw the Flash movie, the one with Keaton as Batman. Loved that opening scene with all the babies. I give the rest of the movie B-, but I'll still want to see it again. Lotsa stuff going on visually I want to process.

Very slow burn.. but I really enjoyed it, possibly driven by being a huge fan of Ralph Finnes, and an even bigger fan of Lily James

Probably one of the films where the book was better than what made it to the screen
