They refuse to use a better protected sleeve for Blurays which would eliminate the problem. So they just increased the price to cover all the damaged discs they have.

I just canceled because of this. Out of the 20 Blurays I rented over half of them arrived cracked.
Blu-ray's are still the same makeup as a DVD, so a stronger sleeve would benefit both discs.

Since they raised the price, I canceled the Blu-ray service and haven't missed it.

Really? I never had this issue with them but I see why it could be a problem. They should really do what GF does and use the cardboard like extra packaging.

yeah, but they won't because it will cost more for them to ship. They even said that. They say it is a minor problem. They seem to be cracking somewhere during the shipping process. Probably the mail sorters .

That's the word, with a small but vocal group of subscribers claiming their discs are repeatedly arriving with small cracks on their outer edges. It's unclear what might be to blame, even with the extra coating to prevent scratches on Blu-ray, they could still be susceptible to automated mail processing machines, manufacturing defects or perhaps a spontaneous game of mail Frisbee. The Mars Box blog experienced this issue back in '07 with the disc pictured above, but in the last few months reports seem to be picking up again. It's really too bad those extra costs can't buy tougher packaging like the cardboard slips GameFly uses, but Netflix told Wired the problem is "infinitesimally small" and changing shipping wouldn't be cost effective. My Dad works at the Post Office and he was telling me how they drop everything when a netflix cart comes in and get those out asap. They get priority over priority mail he says. Kudos to Netflix in making a deal like that with the post office.

No cracked discs here either. The extra $4 a month isn't a big deal to get nothing but blu rays.

it has to do with the processing center you use. Obviously certain ones are cracking the discs. Could be the type of mail sorters they use. I don't mind paying the extra for bluray either , but if they don't work it's a waste.

Weird, it only costs me $2 extra per month.

It depends on how many you have at a time. Only $2 for 1 (maybe 2?) and its $4 for 3 at a time
