    Just a quick look.

    Here's 47 inches, 1080p and 120 Hz for $1,099 and free shipping/no taxes http://www.amazon.com/LG-47LH50-47-I...6372796&sr=8-2

LCDs usually don't come in 50 inches...52 inches and 55 inches. 50 inches is a standard size for plasmas.

Can probably find a 52 incher for $1300-1400

Vizio has a 55 inch for $1,400. That's probably the best quality at the best price you're gonna get. My Vizio is the 47 inch 120hz and it cost $1,000.

Yeah but as GC pointed out earlier, LCD TV's don't come in 50 inches. It's either: 47, 52, 55 inches & for his budget 47 inch is his best bet

You can get a 50-inch Panasonic plasma 720p that is 600 hZ -- all plasmas are 600 hZ -- for $750:

                  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16889187104

I have this set, and it's fantastic. You'll never want to watch sports on LCD at 120 hZ -- too much motion blur -- once you've seen sports in plasma. Plus plasma has darker blacks and more vivid colors than LCD, and the viewing angles are much wider, great if you have a pretty horizontal room shape.

The difference between 720p and 1080i is negligible if you're 10 feet away from the screen or more. Plus ESPN broadcasts only in 720p, as progressive is better than interlaced for high-motion video like sports, so you're not going to get much out of 1080p if you watch a lot of ESPN.

I'll be a good 15 ft. away from the TV.

One word of warning about that 50-inch Panny plasma: It does not have a PC input. If you want to connect a laptop to that TV, you're out of luck without a tricky workaround.

It does have three HDMI jacks, two sets of component jacks and S-video/composite jacks. Enough inputs for conventional stuff, like HD cable boxes, DVD/Blu-Ray players, gaming consoles.

                          I wouldn't really call a dvi/vga to hdmi cord a "tricky" workaround

a 52 inch LCD 1080p and 120Hz is gonna go for more than $1200 ($1300-1400) unless you find a really, really good sale.

Is it LCD or bust? Is it going in a super bright room where you can't control the lighting?

If you'd consider a plasma you can go 1080p and get 50 inches for well under $1200.

And considering how far away you'll be, a 720p plasma set would save another $300. ($600-800)

Just depends on what you want. LCDs are more popular, so they costs more. Which is better depends on your needs and where the set is going.

10-4. I've never done it and only have read that it was tricky, so I'll defer to someone with knowledge and experience.

Good point from Gamecock about light control. You don't want a 50-inch plasma in a bright room, as the glare and reflections will be fierce. But if you can control the light through shades, have it in a dim room or watch most of your TV at night, a plasma can't be beat for vivid color, deep blacks, wide viewing angles and lack of motion blur.

I LOVE my 50-inch Panny plasma. I have three kids and a busy job, and I do almost all of my TV watching at night. So the plasma is perfect.
