I was in a rut recently, too. I love Metallica, but after a while, you need a change from Master of Puppets. I listen to a lot of different styles of music. One thing I did recently was find a bunch of songs that I didn't own that I enjoyed listening to from a certain time period.
I was able to create the following playlists:
90's East Coast Hip-Hop (lots of Nas, Biggie, Big L, Tribe, Jay-Z, Naughty by Nature and mix tape classics)
90's West Coast Hip-Hop (MC Eiht, Too Short, E-40, Rappin-4-Tay, Snoop, Cube, Westside Connection)
Then I went through the 2000's and looked at top-40 charts and picked songs I enjoyed. I use all three on a rotating basis when I run or ride my mountain bike.
I also downloaded a bunch of songs from The Sword and Down. These bands opened for Metallica on the Death Magnetic tour and I just never got around to buying their music until recently. Very good if you're lifting max effort.
