Re: Boardwalk Empire (Season 2)
I saw that situation with Jimmy's mother and him coming from a mile away. Although when it played out last Sunday I had to look away from the TV.Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire (Season 2)
I don't even know what to say.
I honestly don't know how I feel about that ending. I'll watch the show because it's been so great, but.....
Yeah, if it got cancelled right now, I wouldn't even care and this is coming from a guy who has LOVED this show from night one (despite not posting about it here.)The line must be drawn HERE! This far, no further!Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire (Season 2)
SpoilerYeah, I'm not really sure if the show can survive this. Jimmy and Richard were the only two who were remotely interesting to me. I think the writers did a pretty poor job of handling Jimmy in season 2 and had no where else to go but kill him off since his character ran its course. And by killing him off, the whole purpose of season 2 was an extremely long winded way to show how difficult it was to be Nucky (run Atlantic City). And now we are right back where we started off towards the end of Season 1, minus Jimmy.
Nucky Thompson's character won't hold my interest going forward. Hope they have something much better than season 2 up their sleeve.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Boardwalk Empire (Season 2)
Not a fan of that episode.
As the show goes on I've really continuously liked Nucky less and less, and to see him get away with everything that he was up against this season was not satisfying at all. Add to that, you kill off the most interesting character in the show.
Ugh, I'll probably continue to watch, at least see how the third season goes, but not happy about that at all.Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire (Season 2)
That was the type of ending I expected MAYBE at the end of season 3 or 4.
I wonder if the show was created to only last a few seasons?GT: Herkyalert

Re: Boardwalk Empire (Season 2)
Ummmm.......Unless this turns into Chicago Empire and follows the rise of Cappone, I am not sure this show can survive. This almost felt like the end of the series......
Jimmy's Gone. Agent Van ALden appears to have successfully escaped to the midwest. Nucky has just lost his entire fortune.
Thing is, Jimmy's ending was very strange. He came there unarmed and had given his son his dog tags as if he knew this was the end. I have never seen Jimmy unarmed and it seems as if he would have at least wanted to get his revenge on the butcher before he went out.
All the backstories with Jimmy and his wife seem absolutely useless now. Its like Lost Season 2 when they went overboard giving backstories to charatcers who were essentially kicked off the show at the end of the season. It was entertaining while it was going on, but now I look back at it and think, what was the point to some of this.
All I can hope now is that Richard goes Rogue and wreaks havoc on Nucky and Company.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire (Season 2)
I can't believe it, I don't know how I feel. They kill off the most likable character on the show that they built up for 2 seasons. I hope this is huge for the story and Jimmy is not treated like every other shmuck that gets killed on the show.
Something like this should start a war.Comment

A war, between whom? There was noone left in Jimmy's corner except his Mom and Richard. Hopefully Richard goes Rogue, but he appeared to be at the end of his rope too.I can't believe it, I don't know how I feel. Re: Boardwalk Empire (Season 2)
Interesting that no one has used the word "shocked" to describe the ending to this episode. It's as if doing so would credit the writers/creators a little bit and that would be a bad thing because they did the unthinkable-killed off Jimmy. But it was shocking-I can't recall a TV moment that was more shocking.
Rumors hinted at Michael Pitt being a little difficult on the set, but they were dispelled by him being "intense". Anytime I hear something like this, I think, "How intense"?
If you saw the wrap up after the episode they cited Jimmy's season 1 advice to Nucky ("you can't be half a gangster"). Nucky supposedly went full circle with the execution. They also mentioned the "blood is thicker than water" angle when Nucky spared Eli. I thought the gun would be trained on Eli at the last second followed by a couple of rounds to his body.
Bottom line is Jimmy saw the attempted assassination of Nucky fully through and did nothing to stop it. And why? He was angry, the war f##ked him up? I should have saw this coming. No respectable gangster could retaliate any other way.
Hey, I'm sorry to see Jimmy go, but from day one this guy was a tortured, f$%ked up killing machine. I'm almost happy to see him relieved of his misery. It was a nice touch with the "bowling with the angels" comment.Comment

Re: Boardwalk Empire (Season 2)
Exactly. I liked that they killed him. There was no where else for him to go. He showed that he was untrustworthy (betrayed Nucky then the Commodore then Eli by lying about not being involved in the shooting). You think Nucky was just going to let the past year slide? Jimmy was at the forefront of getting him arrested and almost killed.
I love Jimmy as a character but I'm glad that the show had the balls to finish the story and kill off characters that the story showed had to go. Wish I could say the same about Sons of Anarchy.
Here is a great postmortem by the show's creator Terrance Winter:
