They could make the movie like LOTR and have it 3 hours long, but they need to keep the young crowds attention.

Hopefully they do an extended cut Blu Ray release like LOTR. A few more scenes focusing on survival and another scene or two with Rue would be cool.

Yess one of my issues with the movie was rue and katniss alliance wasn't fleshed out as well. It was pretty rushed

It looks at how government can abuse its people without any consequences at all. Any government that would kill innocent children just to serve as a warning is one that should not exist. That's the overall struggle that you get with Katniss as she progresses through the Games in the book.

I thought the movie was great and thought it went along with the book just fine. I'm fine with what they left out of the movie. The only thing I wish they had mentioned was why Haymitch is the drunk that he is. Maybe it was in one of the other books that explained the stresses of him being a mentor and that's why it wasn't mentioned, I can't remember. But he just came off as a drunk in the movie without the real realization to the audience of why he's like that.

I agree. A few things like that were missed, but overall I can't complain at all about the movie. I thought it was a very enjoyable movie and captured most of the book pretty well.

The bit about Haymitch is pretty much explained in the 2nd book.

Yeah. It was explained in the 2nd book.

Gotta wait for the 2nd movie now

The only thing I wish they would have done more with in the movie was the relationship between Katniss and Haymitch and how much alike they are. Other than that I don't have a problem really with any of the omissions in the movie. You just can't make a perfect adaptation of a book in a movie without making it ridiculously long.

Just reading the book now - had a few spoilers from browsing over this thread just now.

My wife and I are going to see it in a few weeks. She's seen it twice already and loves it.

I just started reading it the other night and am already 100 pages in. Very good read so far. Looking forward to seeing the movie, hopefully next weekend. My wife is itching to go, as she's read all the books, but is going to wait for me to at least finish the first book before we go.

Good thing is that I'll have all the books read by the time the next movie drops.

LOVED the movie. I read all three books within about 3 or 4 days, so pretty big fan of it I guess lol. Thought they did a great job. Obviously certain things got left out, and I didn't really have a problem with it. Though....

                              Spoiler

Thought the acting was great throughout, which surprised me. I was expecting the guy who played Peeta to suck, but I thought he did a solid job. I felt they just got the overall mood of the book right and translated it well to the big screen.

All in all, very happy and it met my expectations. Can't wait to see the next one. Or see this again a couple more times.
