[QUOTE=LionsFanNJ;2045980934]I never thought the shows focus was the crime, partially because its an anthology and who knows what the next locale/case takes us, and partially because were getting what two disparate world views do when they're forced to come together.

I don't know if I'm explaining that right...

I hear what you're saying. The crime is an important part of the show but the main attraction is the path each character takes over the course of time. What got them to their current state and the role the murders played in getting them there.

It also seems that things are only going to get worse for Marty and he will eventually end up in the same place Rust is at. What a show!

The tone of the show has been very slow paced except for the last half of episode 4. I just can't see the last 2 episodes going balls out at a frenetic pace to tie up all the loose ends. Its just not styled that way. I expect this meeting with Rusty and Marty to probably take up 20 minutes of the next episode, giving us a sublime summary of the last 10 years. I have no clue what to expect and its very refreshing for a TV show to have such an unorthodox approach.

I also think this series might be even better appreciated on the second viewing. It has to do with the whole flat circle theory. You can't watch this show from a perspective of I wonder what happens next or what could the main characters have done differently, because they did what they did and do what they do over and over again.

I really wonder though why Hart shoots Eddie Ledoux. Eddie knew what was going to happen before it happened. Cohle, should have known it too, he's been there 100 times, but didn't realize until later. But anyway, back to Hart. It seems a little out of character for him to just go shoot Ledoux. He could have tortured him for more information or to avenged those little kids that were in the trailer. Beat the living crap out of him like he did to the two kids that were with his daughter. A bullet to the head seems like an awful kind thing to do to Ledoux. Could have made him feel monumental pain first. All killing him did was hide potential facts from Cohle. Almost like Hart wanted the trail to stop there that day.

Another interesting thing is before Hart and Cohle fought, Hart made sure he didn't have anything on him that he could use to Kill Cohle with because he knew he was seeing red and he might actually kill him if things were to escalate. Now when Cohle pulls him over at the side of the road, he makes sure he has his gun ready like he may have to kill him.

One of the radio shows here in Minneapolis lifted a quote from the episode last night to have on their button bar.

Marty: “I caught zero logic in all of that. And the last bit? Pure gibberish.”

That was funny. That was said in part because Marty had been severely dissed by Rust earlier.

I think everything has to be taken at face value at this point.

We pretty much have all the evidence laid out for us right now.

So anyway, those are my thoughts.

I thought the reveal of Scar face guy was fantastic. With the setting sun behind him so you can't really make out his face, then the camera pans and the scars come in to focus. It was definitely an "oh ****!" moment for me!

I'm in agreement with you. Some of the crazy ideas out there (while interesting) I just don't see coming to play. I think that pretty much all the major players have been named, now it's just connecting all the dots. I do not see some huge twist coming with either Rust or Marty. Perhaps a smaller shocker with someone else, but I think our two lead detectives are pretty much who they are

Right. And that's a huge part of this show and it's appeal, at least for me; yes, there's this crazy case with all kinds of questions and connections, truly a whodunit, but what sets it apart are the unique protagonists and how they handle this life-changing case, as well as each other. Rust Cohle is up there in my favorite tv characters of all time.

And the fact he was mowing in a circle with just a little bit left unfinished. Pretty good scene although he really doesn't look like a spaghetti monster. Would have thought the scars would have been more pronounced.

Also the acting in incredible. I forget Woody and Matt are even actors. They've completely absorbed their characters.

Yeah, the blood runs deep in this one. There's gonna be some kind of huge showdown next week, there's way too many connections in high places in this case for things not to get crazy. All kinds of cover-ups and corruption, and that's just the light side of it.

Edit: I'm still wondering whether the two detectives who are currently on the case are part of the cover-up or not.
