He was brutally honest in his standup routines about his drug and alcohol issues. I had heard he fell off the wagon a few years ago with drinking but never knew he was battling depression currently.

Very sad news. He was a great talent in everything he did.

Horrible news. I enjoyed his standup and film work a great deal. I think One Hour Photo is a greatly underappreciated film. He'll be missed.

Wow man. I just happened to go to Facebook and saw this story on my timeline. Thought it was joke until I kept seeing link after link. I just watched the the Law and Order episode he was in the other day. Man this is sad. Doubtfire, Aladdin, Vietnam, so much talent man.

It's incredibly tragic how most artistic geniuses are people who suffer through unimaginable depths of depression. I think that's why they become so great because they try to purge their pain and suffering by entertaining the masses. I wish there was no such thing as depression but alas, there will always be depression in this world.

I remember my first real exposure to Williams was through watching reruns of Mork and Mindy. That show was HILARIOUS just because of Williams' gift of comedy. I think with most other actors in the lead role the show would come off more lame than good. Williams showed his talent for dramatic acting early on in Awakenings in 1990. A movie that's one of my favorites. Hell, most of his movies were either great or made interesting because of his presence.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around all this. It's just so tragic

Sadly, it's not. Turn on any news channel. If it were a hoax they wouldn't be reporting on it steadily.

Like some of you, my first thought when I saw this news was that I hoped it was a hoax. Very sad, and sad to think of what he was battling.

                      RIP.

Man, awful news. Just watched Dead Poets Society last night. Williams provided some excellent, excellent work over the years. I felt he was masterful in Good Will Hunting as well. I preferred Williams' work most when he was able to successfully balance the line between subtle hilarity and an intense evocation of emotion. He will be missed.

                            They're ruling it a suicide.
As for the second part of your post, his show "The Crazy Ones" was cancelled after one season, but a Mrs Doubtfire sequel was in the works. Besides that, I wouldn't say his career was "falling down". In fact, Night at the Museum part 3 is set to release soon.

He was a giant in a lot of our childhoods. Many amazing roles, especially when he was the voice of Genie on Aladdin.

He's one of the few actors that holds a special place in my heart and helped raise me as a child.

                              RIP Robin. Carpe Diem

I doubt his career had anything to do with it. He's in four movies that will be coming out soon.
