Why are many people getting a next-gen system?

And be honest. The main reason that I ask this is because I feel that a lot of people that have said in the past about ANY game: "The graphics don't matter. It's the gameplay that's what's important." If anybody that's ever said that includes something about graphics in their post, then I feel that maybe graphics do matter a little more than you thought.

I mean, sure... they'll have more power and memory, so they can hold more information such as animations, commentary, framerate, whatever. But if it's graphics... then all of you that talked about gameplay being the only thing that matters (no matter what the graphics are like) need a reality check, and to see if a next-gen console really is right for you.

I'm not getting one any earlier than Christmas 2006, and that's a promise. I don't know which one I'd get, though. I'll have to look at both at them. Case in point: I am a graphics whore, and it will be the main reason I'm getting one. I never could play a solid sports game if it didn't look the part.

There's some actual good games coming out and graphics do matter to me.

That just sold me on the system!

I'm also a fan of graphics. If the graphics suck, chances are, I won't buy the game.

video games are a hobby, something I enjoy, and when given the choice for a better system I'll take it...I'd end up getting a 360 eventually, and i'd rather have it at launch than wait a year for a 50 buck price decrease or something

You're right, graphics aren't the only thing, but with some games getting released we'll get equal or better gameplay plus improved graphics (like NBA 2k6)

Graphics are part of the gameplay. You can have a PERFECT baseball game but if between catching and throwing there are no animations no one will enjoy it that much.

While the xbox has plenty of great games on it, It's the next-gen stuff that has me excited. I rarely play my xbox, now-a-days.

Re: Why are many people getting a next-gen system?

I need a balance of the two. My main concern with next generation systems is that developers are now going to make games with unreal graphics and the same current gen gameplay. That's just with the Xbox 360 and PS3 though. I think the Revolution is going to have next gen graphics and next gen gameplay.

In all, graphics don't really mean much if the gameplay sucks, but when a game has great gameplay and bad graphics, it kills you.

Re: Why are many people getting a next-gen system?

I'm definitely not a graphics whore or else I'd have kept my xbox. I sold my xbox because of a lack of quality games IMO. Sorry, but halo does not do it for me because there are plenty of fps games out there are just like it.

I was going to get an xbox 360, but I realized nba 2k6 looks just like a graphical upgrade rather than major improvements, so I'll stick to the ps2 version since it's rock solid imo. And nba live doesn't look promising either. Not sure how madden is gonna be, but the graphics look almost similar to nfl 2k5 on xbox, and I'm not too happy about EA taking the nfl away. Other than sports games what else is there? lol Of course Elder Scrolls is a huge one, but I have myself a quality PC I bought over the summer that I will play that game on.

Now if GTA were exclusively on xbox 360, I'd dish my money out, but it looks like it's still with sony.

There's more than Halo for the XBOX, you just have to be truly looking for it.
I'm not saying you are just a Sony fan___ but I swear to you every Sony "fan" says the same thing EVERY TIME they talk about either the XBOX or the 360. "Halo isn't all that" (or they use the word sucks), and when something can't be denied as looking to be a great experience they say "I have a PC for that kind of stuff". It never fails, this must be in the Sony fan club handbook or something.
It was maybe a month ago when a manager at Gamestop, said almost the exact same this as you. He said MS sucks and that Halo sucks and when pressed about other games such as Oblivion coming for the 360 said , and I quote " I have a PC for those games". Of couse it's the same guy who said Sony's online gaming was superior to LIVE.
Anyways not saying you are a fan___ of Sony, you just almost word for word quoted what most of them say when pressed.

Also can't you play GTA on the PC as well??

COD, Oblivion. NBA2K6(and there wasn't a lot to improve on it so I'll take the graphics upgrade), GRAW, PGR3 are just some of what I'm excited for as far as the 360 is concerned.
EA didn't take the NFL away, the NFL did.

Lastly MLB will be why I get a PS3.

Seriously though, the next-gen is the future of gaming (duh). All the developers are going to be focusing their worthwhile games on the new systems. I won't pick up anything before this Spring though. I'll keep my Xbox because I love all the games I have.
