Re: Okay, so does this intercooler work?

My 360 just got the dreaded three red lights, so I went to gamefaqs to read about what could be done and read this one post about the intercooler causing this; so I unhooked the intercooler and it works fine now.

I've had my 360 hooked up with the intercooler for the past four months about, has anyone else with the three red lights had it in use with the intercooler as well?

Most likely what caused this was the power cord being loose where it connects to the intercooler. I have had this happen before.

I have read that the power cord causes this issue. I have made sure that my 360 and the power brick are on the same level. This way the cord isn't pulling down on the system.

Yeh that was my problem. You could imagine the disgust I felt when I saw three lights, only to replug in my power cord and raise my power brick off the ground.

Yes, the wise words of the Candyman

              Re: Xbox 360 Intercooler

Nyko Responds to Intercooler 360 Complaints
Company stands by product; offers console replacement for verifiably culpable defects.

November 15, 2006 - Way back in April of this year we reviewed Nyko's Intercooler 360, an add-on cooling solution that aims to help lower the 360's internal temperature. We liked the product, and aside from the fact that the extra fans add a degree of extra noise to the 360's operating volume, we had no complaints. Since we ran the review the sample Intercooler360 has been attached to one of our launch Xbox 360s, the only launch unit we have in the office, in fact, that has not yet suffered the "Red Eye of Death."

While we won't argue that our test base has been large enough to make any broad claims, if nothing else the Intercooler hasn't caused us any problems. We've read reports from the general online community, however, that some users have encountered problems they believe to be associated with the Intercooler 360. We won't offer comment on the various complaints that have been leveled, but Nyko has issued an official statement in response. Nyko states:

"Nyko is proud to announce that they've shipped more than 500,000 Intercooler 360s to date, helping consumers lengthen the lives of their Xbox 360s so they get more from their investment in next-generation hardware.

The Intercooler 360 creates superior airflow which reduces the console's internal temperatures. By maintaining better performance temperature throughout the Xbox 360 system, the Intercooler 360 ultimately prolongs the life of the hardware which would otherwise be affected by the intense internal temperatures inside the console.

Recently, a story appeared online claiming that the Intercooler 360 is damaging Xbox 360 consoles. Although it looks as if the story came from an isolated incident, NYKO takes any such claims seriously. It is possible that a defective unit caused damage in the incident, however it is impossible to confirm this is the case without inspecting the unit first hand and performing tests on the hardware. Any number of reasons from a power spike, to using the Xbox 360 without a surge protector could have caused damage.

Nyko stands by its products 100% and is confident in the Intercooler 360 and its reliability as a safe and effective means of lengthening the life of the Xbox 360 console.

While a small percentage of all products suffer from defects, the total defect rate for the Intercooler 360 is well under 1%, which is less than half of the average for consumer electronics products. All consumer products will suffer from a small number of defects, and Nyko is extremely proud of the low defect rates for the Intercooler 360. For those consumers who feel they have received a defective product, Nyko will replace both the damaged Intercooler 360 and Xbox 360 console upon first hand verification that the Intercooler 360 caused the system to fail."
