Re: Microsoft\'s Xbox losses almost double.
My thoughts are that IT site really needs to work on their titles.
Losses at Microsoft Corp.'s Home and Entertainment segment, which includes the Xbox game console, nearly doubled in the last three months of 2002, the company disclosed in a regulatory filing Friday.
The segment, which also includes Microsoft's TV platform and PC games, posted a quarterly operating loss of US$348 million, compared with $180 million in the same period a year ago, the Redmond, Washington, company said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for its second fiscal quarter.

Re: Microsoft\'s Xbox losses almost double.
No surprise here...the had a great Xmas with respect to hardware sales, with that too good to be true package of JSRF and Sega GT. They pushed a lot of units and I'm pretty sure they'll bounce back when halo 2 and a bunch of other games come out...live enabled hopefully
Cameras or guns, one of them is gonna shoot me to death.Comment

Re: Microsoft\'s Xbox losses almost double.
Well i've been reading elsewhere about MS' struggle in the console market. I'm of the opinion that it'll take a long time before MS becomes the dominant company. The Xbox has the problem of not being very popular in the gaming capital of the world (Japan) and not getting the mainstream love that Sony's getting and Nintendo has historically gotten.
The one thing that Xbox has going for it is that the console hasn't hit it's peak from a graphical standpoint. This peak period should start to happen by early this year and all of next. The PS2 on the other hand has been maxed out, capabilities wise and is starting to show it's age.
If MS could make XBL a bit cheaper then it is now, while still churning out great games then the company may MAY get some casual gamers.
The interesting thing tho, is the lead up to the PS3 and Xbox next. Sony hyped the hell out of PS2 and they're sure to hype the bejesus out of the PS3. Since MS as a whole still has tons of money we could see a marketing war the likes we've never seen since the early days of Nintendo vs. Sega.
All in all it should be interesting.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

It is $50 for a year? Lord if that is too much for a gamer they need to step away from the video games and spend that money on food and utilities.

I hope the X-Box wins.
Yes, it's M$, but as opposed to the PS2 and the GC, the best titles are released here first.
With the other two, we get most of the big titles many months later then they come out in Japan.
