Really looking forward to this one.
well this isn't really a rockstar game exactly, although they probably have a fair bit of involvement as a publisher. A poorly ran company founded by The Getaway creator is making it, and Sony dropped it because it was in worse shape than Lair and Heavenly Sword.

Rockstar ended up giving Sony that Agent game as an exclusive in exchange for Sony writing off $20 million dollars they wasted on LA Noire. Sony ended up with an upgrade, while Rockstar had to polish a turd for years.

It sounds really fun, but I remain skeptical after 6 years of development hell.

The way you describe it, it sounds more like a funding/organizational problem rather then a pure development problem. I bet once R* got the property they tore everything down and started from the ground floor up which prolonged the development time.

I'm optimistic for this game and others of the same ilk where it isn't all shoot em up all the time.

I'm interested in this one....skimmed the Game Informer article and one of the devs said he basically skips the GTA conversations to get to the gameplay, and they're trying to make this game something you want to experience...

The GTA conversations? I don't understand what the developer means by this.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I think he means he skips all of the cutscenes and the story. Which if I'm getting this correctly, is completely ridiculous.

was just reading the GI in depth on this game and the cut scenes are actually investigations (you play a crime solving detective) and they are saying that the motion capture process that they are using here is so ground breaking that you can actually tell (and need to) if people are lying or genuine. They say the lip syncing and 3d facial animation is a leap forward.

they were saying that back in like 2005 too.

It's certainly sounds ambitious, and it does sound interesting. Hopefully they get all this working, although I'd probably play for the setting alone.

true... but this was a hands on and the writer was giving his impressions of it in action, so evidently they did what they said they would

I too am looking forward to the setting

                      A developer said this?

That doesn't sound like a Rockstar employee to me. Surprising.

if that quote is true, then it's probably from a team bondi developer, as rockstar is the publisher.

Sorry, it was one of the voice actors who made that comment...but basically he's saying that he "wants to enhance the experience and bring gameplay and cutscenes together into a singular experience rather than 2 separate things (where you play, then put down the controller and watch)"...

I prefer that...after games like ME2 where you interact during a conversation, it's tougher to go back to games where you sit there for 5 minutes during cutscenes

it's not lipsyncing an animation though. It's 30 cameras that capture video and it gets rendered into a 3d character. The audio is recorded simultaneously with the video so there is no need to try to sync lips with voice. If you've seen the G. I. Pics then you know that no animator could make faces like these.

So the guys who created the Getaway were on this? I thought the Getaway was full of so much potential but was plain garbage. I wanted to like it so bad but it was plain garbage. I hope this game is very entertaining. I'm so behind in reading my Game Informers just like I'm behind in gaming. Too much good stuff.......

I actually pulled out the Getaway yesterday. Man that game had potential, and I probably would have liked it if the character animations weren't so damned awful.
