Is it really a disappointment if this game is bad? Was anyone really expecting it to be good after its been in development for this long?

As one of the more obvious Duke Nukem apologists here: I had fun with the demo, but I did come away a bit unsatisfied. Maybe it's because it was the same as the PAX East floor demo? Maybe it's the "plain" feeling that others describe? Maybe it's that the levels lack context with each other, something only the full game can provide?
Sitting and thinking about it, I think the lack of context for me hurt it more than anything, particularly given that I just thoroughly enjoyed two excellent single-player story-driven campaigns in Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat.
There are some cool things in here that have a very Duke spin to them. For example, you can drink beer to increase Duke's ability to take damage, but at the same time your vision goes all trippy (beer goggles, I guess, lol). The Shrink Ray is here, and the Rail Gun (in essence a sniper rifle) does some pretty interesting things to whomever you shoot at with it (blows off limbs sometimes, makes people pop a la the Expander sometimes, the majority of the time just kills).
I'm not changing my preorder, but this demo if it were released to the full public it wouldn't sway anyone to buy the game, I don't think.Last edited by Hooe; 06-03-2011, 08:31 PM.Comment

I have the balls of steel edition preordered on both pc and ps3...now I think I'll be waiting to see some reviews up before picking it up.Comment

The game that we see now should have been released 4-5 years ago, It should not be a surprise that the mechanics of the game are tired. Anyone who never played Duke will think this game will suck, anyone who really enjoyed Duke 3d should enjoy this for the nostalgia factor.
My roomy is buying this game so i will beat it but I know exactly what I am getting into, I know this game cannot stand toe to toe with any other Major FPS released in the past 3 years.My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

The worst thing WORST THING that could have been done is removing the all weapons at once system. Lame. Now I'm mad.
I do think gearbox should make a fresh Duke game from the ground up, though if word of mouth spreads about the apparent low quality, that might not happen.
