I've been PS3 less for the past 3 months and just picked this game up. It was between this and NCAA11. I figured by the time im done with this NCAA will be patched and sliders/rosters will be set. Can't wait to fire this thing up in an hour.

Re: Red Dead Redemption
That happens all the time once games are done. They're probably done working on DLC for awhile so they don't need to have everyone there.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Red Dead Redemption
Maybe this has already been answered in this thread, but according to some early reviews, I was under the impression you can wipe out everyone in a town making it a ghost town.
Even to the point where vultures would form and it would take a considerably long time for the town to rebuild it's population.
That is simply not true.
I've wiped out so many villages only to see it become fully repopulated 30 seconds later. And everyone's walking around like nothing ever happened there.
I don't want anyone to believe I don't like this game. I love it. But one of the things that got me the most excited was hearing about how all of your choices will have a grand butterfly affect. That's simply not true at all.
Yes, according to your fame and honor people will react a little differently. But I thought there were going to be bigger consequences for certain actions.
If I shoot the General Store propieter in a town, I should be remembered for a long time. To the point where entering that villa would result in terror or retribution.
Also, the General Store should be closed for a longer duration until someone takes up the job again.
These are the kinds of things I believed were promised before the game released, but were never accomplished.Comment

This also was my understanding of how the game would be. Simply that's not the case. Still a great game imo.The poster formerly know as "FLIGHTWHITE"Comment

If I can remember right, there was an interview with one of the devs where this you question about the ghost town was asked and he simply said they had to change it for game play sake. For example if you shot your horse, it was supposed to be dead. No more getting it back. For the sake of game play they didn't want you to have to walk back to town. So they changed it where you can whistle for a horse after five in game minutes and something will show up.
Again, it is a small gripe in what I consider an outstanding game.Comment

Re: Red Dead Redemption
This was also one of my small disappointments with the game. I was hoping that R* would evolve the consequence game play in an open world setting as much as they revolutionized open world game play itself. I didn't understand how you can go on a murderous rampage and have a high bounty then simply walk into a mission marker to help the local sheriff. I played as a hero first, so it didn't affect me as much as when I went the desperado route.

Like I said, I still enjoy the crap out of this game. But one of my gripes with all the GTA games was how everything is forgotten in 60 seconds time. And then reading from the devs themselves that this would not be the case in RDR, well, I was beyond giddy to say the least.
Now that I've found out it's all a sham, it's a bit disappointing.
Anyway, I love it and will continue to play it all summer and fall, even after I complete the story mode.
But like you said, while the game is an open world, the story still sticks you on an unbending track.
It's hilarious to watch as I burn woman and villages and then in the next cut-scene I'm ragging on an NPC for trying to rob a couple of nuns.
The story should evolve with every action you make. But perhaps that's too great a task for even today's consoles.
Thanks again for the reply.Comment

I bought this game used so I can't use the voucher for free DLC. Is the DLC worth buying?Comment

Re: Red Dead Redemption
There's 3 DLC codes. Golden weapons, Deadly Assassin outfit, and the War Horse.
None of them are that great IMO. War Horse is prolly the bestComment

Re: Red Dead Redemption
Finished the game last night and pretty much agree with what most of what you guys have said:
SpoilerIt's a great game but kinda let down by the ending. I get that the whole 'what goes around, comes back around' angle they were going with which is fine but i think they could have pulled it off a little better. I agree that Jack was a whiny little bitch as a kid and they even made the grown up version pretty annoying so playing through after i have finished has kinda lost it's appeal.
I am at about 85% but other than getting all the treasures and maybe some hunting i think i'm done with this game
I did thoroughly enjoy it and it's a top 5 game of all time for me when it's all said and doneComment

SpoilerI dont understand how some folks are disappointed in the ending...Whether he tried to reform himself after he got a family, John Marston was an outlaw. The only way for him to go out and the only way for him to truly be redeemed was in a blaze of glory. Having that ending was true to the western genreLast edited by ZB9; 07-17-2010, 09:11 PM.Comment

No doubt him dying was the way to end it and meant the story went full circle.Comment

Re: Red Dead Redemption
SpoilerThat would be fine if it weren't for the way the game handled violations of the law otherwise or if it hadn't made a point to track fame and honor the way they did.
Also, the old west was rife with outlaws turned lawmen, lawmen turned outlaws and outlaws that disappeared to a new life and identity. That's both in factual history and fiction.
I just found the end of the game to be a complete letdown that doesn't fit the rest of the game no matter how I look at it.

SpoilerI could see that if you played through the entire game as a good guy with high honor. I played through as the most evil bastard on the planet so its was me just getting my just deserts but for someone who had played through as a good guy i could see that annoyance.Comment
