I consider myself very fortunate to experience console gaming from day one. My friend had the Magnovox Odyssey. My father initially purchased some tank game. I don't remember the name of it, but it was basically the controls as if you were driving a tank. From there we had an Intellivision..and so on and so on.

I'm not saying kids today won't say the same. I'm sure they will talk about the first Xbox or Playstation. I think though, to be able to reflect on past systems and games, and to be able to claim that you have played them, is special. I would say to call yourself a gamer would mean that you would give anything a go.

I loved Contra just as much as anyone back in the day, but I played a flash version of it online not too long ago and I agree with the kid....it sucks now. And I dont really have any desire to ever play it again.

Yup. It's hard for an 11 year old that grew up on Next Gen graphics to appreciate any thing that came from the NES days. For me I progressed from the Atari, to Commodore64 (Summer Games - High Dive was fun for hours), to Intellivision, to the NES. So the graphic leap was always forward. You can't expect the kid to think this classic is good at all.

The only thing that makes me laugh is the difficulty he has with it. That games was not bad compared to a Mega Man or even the original Metroid. Don't even put him on the original NES Ninja Gaiden. We had to memorize patterns and time jumps. The AI did the same thing every time and we had to recognize and adjust to this when we were younger then him. There were no immediate saves, and games didn't have the replenishing health bar. If something touches you, you die, don't let it hit you again. If you die too many times...game over, start again for the beginning. Tough love.

Man what you know about Summer Games- High Dive on c64?? I remember going to my friend house Greg and me him and Ryan would play High dive forever...

These have been quite entertaining to say the least. I can't wait to see this kid get destroyed playing the original TMNT game on NES. That game was very hard.

I hear you, my man. I could never get out of the Technodrome when I was a kid. I did get some redemption around ten years ago though (when I was around 20-21 years old) and actually beat the game straight up. It is still one of my proudest moments as a gamer.

That's the thing with the AVGN, you either love him or hate him. I happen to love him but totally understand why others would feel differently about him.
