Speaking of sleepers...
I can't believe no one has mentioned this Diamond in the Rough.

I've played every game on this list sans Batman and Tekken but I feel pretty comfortable in saying Dragon Age, this is one of the few games that ended up consuming my life. Heck, I even convinced my gf to try it out and now she won't put it down.Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011 Big XII Champions, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Champions

Re: Final Edition Best Game of 2009
I voted Batman first and Uncharted 2 second the first time, I think. Now would have to say Assassin's Creed 2. It encompasses a lot of different game genre types (platformer, rpg, action, stealth, sandbox, etc.) and does a great job tying them all together. Great storyline & voice acting. Amazing detail to the cities. And I actually felt like I was learning something while playing. For a sequel it really does a great job going far beyond what the original was. Fighting system fleshed out more than the first, but could stand to go further.
I like Uncharted 2, and it has some incredible moments (the train ride, the truck chase). But it's extremely linear - which is the nature of the game. But it just feels like it's more on rails than even the first one was. There's really nothing much I found challenging; the puzzles are pretty straightforward and a lot of the time when I jumped it seemed like the game was almost leading me. A great technical achievement imo though, especially on the train level. Amazing graphics and physics.
Batman was a huge surprise. The fighting/melee mechanic is new, feels fresh, and is extremely well done. The stealth aspects of the game are well done also. It's the first superhero game that made you feel as the character - you really feel like you're Batman. Detective vision was a little too powerful.
Overall a very good year for videogames; next year looks to be incredibleHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Got to be Dragon Age Orgins, nothing this year holds a candle to it. Uncharted 2 was ok at times but overall experience never did engross me. Assassins Creed 2 was great game IMO but doesnt deserve GOTY.
Dragon Age all the way.PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os
