Just finished up. There were a few gameplay mechanics that annoyed me a bit, but otherwise this was on point. Story, characters, world, ambiance were top, top shelf. It was unlike me, but I had figured out most of the twists pretty early in the game, that didn't hamper my enjoyment of it one bit though. It's a top ten game all time for me.

Was the original Bioshock a top 10 for you? I am about 8-10 hours into this one and am loving it, especially because I care so much for Elizabeth. But it's still a hair below the original Bioshock, which was an A+ game for me, top 3 all time. This one is a solid A so far, mostly because the plasmids in the original Bioshock were far more useful and essential to the story and game.Just finished up. Re: BioShock Infinite
Infinite is probably a couple of spots higher on my list than Bio 1, because I give more weight to story, characters, and setting, than to gameplay mechanics, and for me those areas are better in this game. Was the original Bioshock a top 10 for you? Re: BioShock Infinite
Two questions for those who have finished the game....
SpoilerFirst off, was the last "battle" kind of a let down to anyone else? I knew it wouldn't be a fight involving Comstock from the get go because that is just Irrational's style. But man when I was playing it the first time it never crossed my mind that THIS would be the grand finale. It was too hectic and although riding the skyline was fun, letting Songbird do all of the destroying seemed a bit anticlimactic.
Secondly, I didn't read the reviews until after I beat the game but I have to agree with all of them regarding the poor use of Songbird. Such a cool design and concept, but the thing only appeared 3 times all of which were scripted events. In all of the previews and trailers of Infinite songbird was always involved. Figured the whole game was an ongoing battle until the end. They should have built up his relationship with Elizabeth a bit more. Would have made that death scene MUCH more emotional.SpoilerI kind of enjoyed the use of Songbird, actually. For me, it was fitting that something so majestic would only appear a few times, and yet still play a dominating role in the story. But to answer your first question, I did think that we could have used a different battle to end on. There didn't necessarily need to be a boss fight (I assumed there wouldn't be one), but it would have been nice to have some kind of showdown between Booker and one of the head honchos towards the end.Writer for Operation Sports

Re: BioShock Infinite
Finished the game last night. Mind. Blown.
SpoilerI am still trying to wrap my head around what it all means. I get confused easily by the whole parallel universe thing and this game has that in spades. Still, I understand enough to know that the story was amazing and intricate and masterfully told. I want to let it digest for a while and then play through it again (probably wait for the DLC) and see how the story holds up while I am playing it and I know the end game.
I DO feel a bit guilty in that I fell head-over-heels in love with Elizabeth and then it turns out she's my daughter. Ick.
What a great character though. I was determined to save her at the the cost of my own life, so they really did their job with creating her.
I still rate the original game a bit higher because of the atmosphere (though it was terrific here too) and the originality it had. I though the plasmids were better and more useful in the original as well. Combat was about the same. Thought the length of the game was just about perfect; long enough to be satisfying but over before tedium set in. This was a solid A+ title for me, in my top 20 games of all time and in the lead for GOTY at this point.NCAA: Michigan Wolverines

Re: BioShock Infinite
Finally watched through the credits. Amazing how many people it takes to put these things together. I liked that their quality assurance team had like 40 people on it.
SpoilerThe behind the scenes video was pretty cool. Shows just how much detail Ken Levine put into the little things.Comment

Re: BioShock Infinite
Somehow, I am enjoying my second play through even more. Knowing what happens clears everything up for me and it is all making more sense. Especially with the voxophones.
SpoilerAnybody get the voxophone where Fink explains opening the tear to rapture in order to steal Big Daddy technology to construct the Songbird? Genius.
And Im not a big 'easter egg' guy but this would be pretty insane if Irrational pulled this off. This is a clip from the original Bioshock. Listen around the 00:14 second mark.....sound familiar?

^are you talking about
Spoilerjust the sound of Songbird?
Finally beat the game. Loved the ending. Loved everything.
Didn't see one of the twists coming. The end seemed pretty easily coming.
SpoilerLoved seeing us end up in Rapture as one of the "worlds"
I plan on playing through bioshock 1 for a 3rd time. Pretty close to a platinum so I might as well do it.
After that, I will probably go for 1999 mode on Infinite and Im sure DLC will be released by then.
So good. Well worth the wait. A top 5 series of all time.
Sidenote: For the flak Bioshock 2 gets, its still a great game in my opinion. Obviously the least impressive of the 3 games but still great in its own right and still loved it.
The atmosphere of these games are amazing and I can't think of anything close yet.Charger Fan Born and Raised!

Re: BioShock Infinite
Read through the thread a bit.
No real spoilers have been said.
The short of it:
Everyone loves it.
Gunplay is its weak point, story is its strong point.
Characters are well thought out and the environment is outstanding.
Lastly, YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE PLAYED THE OTHER BIOSHOCKS.
Have fun

Re: BioShock Infinite
There are a couple of Voxophones about this:
SpoilerBasically, there are two Fink brothers, one was an engineering genius designed all the machines, vigors, etc and the other was the musical genius that wrote all the music. Turns out, both were just stealing information through all the tears happening around Columbia during the time when Elizabeth had no control over the tears. Jeremiah Fink, even though he stole the ideas from other worlds, is still a bit of a genius to figure out how to make and apply all these stolen technologies.
Specifically one Voxophone talks about, what is to be presumed Rapture and Big Daddies, though I think that is more in reference to the Handymen and not Songbird, which still seems a bit of a mystery.
About the end of the gameSpoilerCount me as one of the ones who didn't care much for the last battle, it's was kind of bland and, really, your only job there is to keep sending Songbird at the zeppelins and not die. It just really felt like an unnecessary bit of busywork. I don't know, it just didn't seem like a proper climax, more of a videogame decision "we NEED a final boss fight, so let's just throw a ton of enemies on the screen, that's good enough".
About the end of storySpoilerDoesn't make much sense to me, they just got done saying DeWitt either goes through with it or not in an infinite number of universes, so what does one death mean. Also, I found it interesting we don't know what happened to the puppet masters, the Luteces. It seems pretty obvious they kept bringing DeWitts to the party since there are so many Booker deaths (like, for instance, jump off the floating city and somehow a new you falls through a tear to pick up where you left behind).Comment

Response to end of the gameSpoilerPersonally I don't think the idea was bad, just the execution. All game you're a vigor and gun wielding badass but the last battle involved you holding back enemies until you could hold down a button to command songbird. Would have been better if you rode on songbirds back and launched an RPG at the aircrafts or something. Didn't feel as if Booker had 'saved the day'
Response to end of storySpoilerWhen Elizabeth brought Booker to the baptism at the end, all of the other Elizabeths appearing leads me to believe that it was a 'funnel' effect where by not giving him a choice and killing him, Comstock never exists, Columbia is never created and Elizabeth never lived their (the reason she disappears). Dont know about the Luteces. They just wanted to get Elizabeth back to Booker so they probably traveled to another universe/situation that needed to change for the better?SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

How aboutResponse to end of the gameSpoilerPersonally I don't think the idea was bad, just the execution. Would have been better if you rode on songbirds back and launched an RPG at the aircrafts or something. Didn't feel as if Booker had 'saved the day'SpoilerBooker has to clear out airships as Songbird makes it's way to the siphon.
As you kill Comstock, he hits a button. You proceed to the bridge and one of the Comstock patriots whirrs to life, peppergun in one hand and RPG in the other, and blasts you through the window onto the deck. Comstock patriot emerges, whistles and now you are fighting the patriot and distracting Songbird with Booker decoy tears. You defeat the patriot and in a cutscene the flute flies out, Songbird grabs you and Elizabeth grabs the flute and calls Songbird off. At that point Elizabeth decides to use Songbird to destroy the siphon, as the Vox attack the ship. Booker tells Elizabeth to order Songbird to the tower while he fights off the Vox, instead when Songbird flies off the Vox give chase, wanting to kill Songbird as a symbol of Comstock oppression. Booker then has to skyline from Vox airship to airship, taking down their engines like he did before, keeping them from Songbird. As the last ship goes down Songbird gets to the tower and Booker goes back to Elizabeth, just in time for Songbird to come back at Booker and we pick up the original ending from there.
They just wanted to get Elizabeth back to Booker so they probably traveled to another universe/situation that needed to change for the better?SpoilerThat doesn't seem to gibe with the "infinite possibilities being played out" message they had been talking about leading up to that point. Maybe if they had Booker and Elizabeth drowning a younger Booker , but the Elizabeths drowned an older Booker on the other side of that decision.Comment
